Been some really interesting developments on the US guns topic.

A few companies including Airlines and insurance companies cutting ties or perks for NRA members in response to social media public pressure.

Now, a department store talking of cutting sales of certain guns.

Blackrock Inc. offering non-gun related investments for discerning investors.

Robb asked me my opinion on Lauren Southern, so as not to derail another thread I’ll revive this one.

Robb there are so many things to pick on when it comes to her but the most infuriating is her stance that Muslims are taught to lie and are given permission by God to lie so that we can take over the world with a global caliphate.

Right wingers and those who are on the extreme right like Tommy Robinson use the word Taqqiya to discribe this practise. You may have heard of it if you been listening to her.

This claim is of course backed up by nothing, they may refer to certain verses in the Quran but these verses have a different context. As I’ve explained over and over again on here Quranic verses have context and they are to be found in the Hadith.

If you look up the verses they use to demonise Muslims with Taqqiya you’ll find they have completely different explainations.

Her opinions but all Muslims under suspicion not just the extremists because she says we’re all taught this.

Not sure what your assessment is of her?

People like her are happy to have their culture and way imposed on others. They don't like others having equal say or a right to their own way. They don't see the irony in imposing things on other cultures such as "democracy" (their version of it) on others without care on the culture of the locals.

They make false claims as they're not looking for the truth but something to confirm their bias. Hence they ignore context as it doesn't suit their argument. I remember there was a poster posting and siting a verse (the verse related to divorce) claiming that it allowed Muslims to marry and have relations with children. This didn't get a proper response then as the thread was locked. He didn't bother to look up the verse himself, he did seem to be getting his information from Anti Islamic/Muslim sites.

Such sites can quote out of context and/or out or meaning (or even outright lie) and the people reading it will believe it if it is what they are looking for. Even if this is pointed out (despite having access to check out what is being claimed), they don't want to listen as they have to be right.

Devious people like Lauren and Tommy use their hatred to support their own and also line their pockets.

Listen to yourselves though, you're defending the context of a fantasy book written by blokes a long time ago. No better, worse or more valid than Scientology or thinking you're living as a facking Jedi.

It's sad this nonsense still runs peoples lives, grow up.

You can think it’s a fantasy book, no problem, but people don’t need to lie about that book and put other people in danger.

If they think it’s fantasy or you think it’s fantasy just concentrate on using that as the argument. A dislike for religion shouldn’t lead to its followers being hurt.

Not sure what to make of whats happening there.

Maduro is democratically elected, the opposition boycotted the election, it's not in a great place but it's under sanctions, it's oil rich and American interference in South American politics isn't a stabilising influence.

Not an expert by any means but I'm wondering if this is in effect the attempted crushing of Castro/Chavez type socialist society by right-wing actors or if it is a genuine attempt to 'rescue' the place from imminent collapse.

Btw the pictures of Maduro getting Salt Bae steak whilst the country starves just adds to my confusion, is the former bus driver another champagne socialist?

One of the people I work with is Venezuelan and they tell me how horrific life is out there and pray daily for the US or someone to come in and end the madness of what is happening. Only the loony left look at Venezuela and see some kind of socialist dreamstate whereas in reality it’s a cautionary tale of what happens when all too predictable human corruption collides with a good idea ‘in theory’. We all know how that turns out and the very people who are supposed to thrive end up having it worse than people in capitalist countries

Robb whatever Maduro is doing, over 70% of the population voted for him. No country has any right to elect leaders for sovereign nations. Britain and America amongst others have recognised another man as the leader of Venezuela. When did this election happen?
