Hello everyone, forgot to check back in.
Anybody keeping up with this potential coup in Venezuela? Oil companies in the states already trying to negotiate contracts.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure what to make of whats happening there.
Maduro is democratically elected, the opposition boycotted the election, it's not in a great place but it's under sanctions, it's oil rich and American interference in South American politics isn't a stabilising influence.
Not an expert by any means but I'm wondering if this is in effect the attempted crushing of Castro/Chavez type socialist society by right-wing actors or if it is a genuine attempt to 'rescue' the place from imminent collapse.
Btw the pictures of Maduro getting Salt Bae steak whilst the country starves just adds to my confusion, is the former bus driver another champagne socialist?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not the greatest leader but not as bad as the Saudis and Israelis who we openly support.
This has to do with greed and the audacity for some nations who want to live independently.

I’d say Norway and Sweden are the socialist alternatives. Their living standards are better than ours and America’s.
Sinn Fein went to the maduro inauguration so well done them....And Corbyn thought Venezuela was a socialist success in 2015.

Actually agree with that statement KFC. I dunno why we are meddling in someone else's affairs. Those offshore reserves are worth a helluva lots of money so if Exxon or one of the Americans majors can lock them down, it's a gold mine of cash flows.

Robb asked me my opinion on Lauren Southern, so as not to derail another thread I’ll revive this one.
Robb there are so many things to pick on when it comes to her but the most infuriating is her stance that Muslims are taught to lie and are given permission by God to lie so that we can take over the world with a global caliphate.
Right wingers and those who are on the extreme right like Tommy Robinson use the word Taqqiya to discribe this practise. You may have heard of it if you been listening to her.
This claim is of course backed up by nothing, they may refer to certain verses in the Quran but these verses have a different context. As I’ve explained over and over again on here Quranic verses have context and they are to be found in the Hadith.
If you look up the verses they use to demonise Muslims with Taqqiya you’ll find they have completely different explainations.
Her opinions but all Muslims under suspicion not just the extremists because she says we’re all taught this.
Not sure what your assessment is of her?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Now let me start by saying that people like Tommy and Lauren and others with opinions like theirs are the last sort of people I want to agree with. Having said that, I reluctantly think there is an element of truth about what they say about some of these verses in the Quran. It’s not just extreme right wingers that have pointed out these findings about these verses either, several Bible following Christians have made the same discoveries and they haven’t done this for any political or agenda of hatred.
I am not saying all Muslims are evil or bad people. The reason why I feel there is truth in what is said about these Quran verses is because of what actually goes on in many majority Islamic countries. It is really very dangerous for many non-Muslims living in some of these places. They are often threatened or forced to convert to Islam regardless of their faith or beliefs and whether or not they have any. ‘No’ is simply not taken for an answer. From the point of view of Christians living in these countries, they are harassed terribly. True Christians who really have accepted the Saviour will not deny Him and convert to Islam no matter what even if it costs them their lives. So what happens is that their livelihoods are threatened, their property is threatened, stolen or destroyed and ultimately their lives are threatened - they are beaten up or killed. Sometimes they are just killed from the very beginning. They try and live in peace alongside their neighbours yet are faced with rotting in jail or violence for just carrying a Bible or anything else associated with it.
Besides the acts of Islamic based terrorism that we hear about, the pressure and threats don’t really occur in the UK and other ‘non-Islamic’ countries because Muslims are in the minority but where they are the majority, life for anyone else is made difficult. Again, I’m not saying that all Muslims are evil or more evil than anyone else or would turn on non-Muslims if they had the chance. I’m just saying that the persecution in the Middle East and Muslim African countries is very real.
One last point I would like to make is that Muslims who leave Islam also suffer just as much as non-Muslims in these places.

I can see why you’ed think and I don’t hate people who hold your opinions but in the nicest way possible I have to say it due to ignorance.
I don’t mind being challenged on my religion, I enjoy it in fact. I should be able to back up my claims and I shouldn’t be scared when somebody asks me a question.
With that being said please show me a couple of the verses you are talking about and challenge me on them. It’s not enough to say the Quran says it, you have to provide proof and in context.
You say things are samic because the happen in Muslim majority countries. Just before it’s collapse, the last Caliphate legalised homosexuality decades before the west.
In the 700’s in what is now Saudi Arabia, women were allowed the option to choose which Khalifa (successor to the prophet) they’re give their pledge of allegiance to. In other words, women were allowed to vote! That’s 1300 or so years before women were allowed to vote over here.
My point is, you shouldn’t judge Islam by the behaviour of human beings who have free will. The tides constantly change which means you’ll never have a clear definition of what Islam is.
Women weren’t allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia because of religious reasons apparently. Now they are. If they weren’t allowed to drive for religious reasons, then who gave the Saudi royals the authority to edit Gods word and then allow women to drive? The sooner you realise people manipulate Holy texts to suit their own agenda the better. Also if you can show me where it says women aren’t allowed to drive in the Quran, i’ll become an atheist.
You should judge Islam on its scriptures and how they were practised by Muhammad pbuh.
Excuse the typos, I was typing quickly on my phone.
There is a difference between muslim people the Qur'an and extremist muslim elements.
Same as we saw extremist catholic and protestant groups.....Jewish extremists and now Hindu extremists emerge again.
Thing is the muslim extremist has numbers and are topical being active and regressive today.
This is where misinformation gets us....

Or maybe the oil companies give a lot of money to the "Christian nut jobs" you speak of for their next campaigns?
Not sure if Christians and oil have anything to do with one another.
Got en email an hour ago saying that we can resume normal operations over there. Everyone else can fack off until something happens. Guess we gave enough to fund their 2020 reelection bid ¯\_(γ)_/¯
