Then you stopped commenting back when I made worthwhile points

I remember you well and good to see you on here, good to see another good ex-60er join us.
Sorry if I come across pessimistic, but I do feel we have probably had the best out of him playing for Spurs. I think he will make a habit of being "injured and unavailable" and this will all end in tears and he'll leave.
I agree with you, I didn't think he ws like this either, but the modern day footballer has always been a greedy so and so, so I guess we shouldn't really be surprised.
I like Modric as a footballer and I pray I am wrong about my fears, but I am not overly confident.
Good to chat with you again
i resorted to namecalling against someone earlier. he was a right twatt though to be fair.
edin - can show us your worthwhile points ?
"best female character
so by that, you dont just mean like, the foxiest "
No i already explained i never found sigourney attractive......best female character as in Bad ass. No female in Cinema history beats the character of Ripley from the Alien saga
Elvis, Im not sure if thats a Euphemism or not , but basically I was saying why I thought Spurs had improved from last season and CPofL was saying that we hadnt because we had lost to City and Utd and made out as if the evidence is conclusive

I guess I was being a bit naive in thinking Luka would be any different, but there you go - the modern footballer like you say...
I was thinking (hoping) that he would put it all behind him, but I suppose you are right and that come January it will all start again probably.
Would you have done a Harry (sell him and improve the squad) or a Levy (and keep him whatever). At the start of the window I was very much in Levy's camp but after seeing him pay i'm not so sure
cinema history ? right, that does rule out mrs mangle then.

Spot on, my feelings also. I thought it was long overdue to see a ckub chairman stand up to player demands and agent demands. I applaud Levy for that. If Modric wanted to move, then he shouldn't have signed a contract as lengthy as 6 years a year ago. Hopefully the day will come when players no longer contimue to have it both ways, although I am not raisng my hopes on that one !
But, like yourself, I found myself in two minds when I saw him play. he wasn't bloody intersted in busting a gut for the team or his team mates, which is why I think we will only occasionally at best, see the best from him whilst he remains a Spurs player.

northwestspur... i vaguely remember you from 606.... I was Tottenham Boy... if that rings any bells..
anyway.. I think what you wrote above is how a lot of spurs fans feel now.. i.e. backed levy at the start, but now maybe are thinkin we should have sold.
I remain firmly behind Levy and his stance. The signal alone, of selling our best player, was enough to make me back him.
People said that it will affect others signing deals..... but Sandro signed a 5 year deal the other day.
I say well done Levy.. and if Modric doesnt want to play, then sit him in the stands and give one of the cms who want to play for the club a go.

i dont think he always gave his best anyway. he always upped his game for man united and chelsea. to me, that means he was leaving something in the tank for the other games.
i think harry probably has got a right to be pizzed off by the way with DL really stepping into team matters to make a point of principle. harry could have had £40m worth of new players. instead he's got someone who doesnt want to play.
regarding the lengthy contacts, i just wonder whether the clubs encourage this so that the players' value increases ?

exactly.
Spurcat - I always thought moric was a consummate professional who would get on with it but you are probably right which is a shame because Luka IMO is one of the best MF's to be at spurs for a good few years. I hope we are proved wrong!
Good to speak to you, will try and get back on here a bit more now I see some of the old 606 on here. Here's hoping for 3 points at the weekend a good performance for Ade, goodness knows we are due one from a striker!

northwest, surely by your user number you have been on here for ages though?!?!?
Chronic yeah remember you as tottenham boy, I didn't post that much on 606, a busy job and 3 kids means i'm only on here from time to time...
What Levy has done is certianly bold, and I back him for now for taking this stance, but he should remember that he has a very experienced football man in Harry, and when he started saying that he was better off going, alarm bells started going off!!
Edin - I joined when 606 died, but a change of jobs meant that I wasn't able to post for a while
Fair enough. I reckon my posting will die down as Im going into third year next week
Playing devil's advocate for a moment (not the film, although Charlize Theron is an absolute babe), then the Modric situation can go either way.
Levy stays true to his word - Modric goes nowhere, and now has no choice but to knuckle down and get on with what he does best. That is no doubt good for Spurs.
What is also good for Spurs is that the club have made a statement - "if we don't want to sell, and we, the club, will hold power over any decision in that regard, then we, the club, will not sell". No matter what the price, no matter what the (supposed) wishes of the player are. The player is under contract to the club, and they have the right to hold the player to such a contract.
And I admire Spurs for taking that stance. All too often we hear about player power, and how it is them who hold all the cards, but this summer Spurs proved otherwise.
The other side of the coin however is how this affects, not only Modric, but other players. Spurs are a great club, but currently there are clubs out there who can offer a player something Spurs can not. Champions League football (at this precise moment, although that can (and does) change) for one, but perhaps more significantly, a six-figure salary for another. So there is always the danger that Spurs players heads will be turned should such a lucrative chance present itself. This could work against Spurs in their quest to attract players to the club. Many moves in football are regarded by players as a stepping stone to greater things, the ideal being that they will attain those greater things with the club that they sign for. But that invariably doesn't always (more often than not) work out. So they may be reticent in signing a long term contract with such a club. Especially so knowing that such a club (Spurs) will play "hard ball".
Having said that, Sandro has just signed a new 5-year contract - which would, at face value, fly in the face of my paragraph above. But contracts in football today work two ways. They ensure a players future, but also ensure that the club can command as high a fee should the player move on. Spurs fans saw that with Berbatov. And thus know it only too well. So Sandro signing a 5-year contract doesn't necessarily rule out the possibility of players working solely for their own gain. And how many times do players actually fulfill the entire duration of their contract anyway? It's more often the case that they don't than do. For a myriad of reasons. It could be that the club can no longer hold on to the player (an offer comes in that is too good to turn down), or that the player no longer features in the future plans of the club (something we've seen all too obviously at City of late).
So a contract, all said and done, can work to both the benefit and detriment of both the club and the player. Benefit in that it secures the financial future of the player (and secures the club against not losing that player for less than his value to the club), and detriment (in that it can become an obstacle to the player wanting to move elsewhere, and to the club in trying to get a player off the books).
Sorry for the length - I'm in a rambling mood tonight.
Ripleys, no problem for the length, was a top point and pretty much sums up the Modric saga in my opinion. I feel not letting Modric go may be more beneficial in the long term than the short term. However if he plays well this season then it was a great piece of business by Levy
