Nigel Pearson?

It'd be a tough job to manage people who think they're better than you. But if the owners do decide to act then Gary Rowett would be an interesting shout.

We really dont want to be experimenting with managers

I don't think we should replace Ranieri this side of the summer, not least because I don't think there's anyone out there who would give us a better chance of survival. It's not like 14-15 when Pulis was available and could have replaced Pearson. If there was an Allardyce or a Bruce out there, I'd be tempted but there isn't.

In the summer, I think we need to review everything - the squad, technical structure, scouting, transfers, the long term plan and, ultimately, the management too. I really struggle to see Ranieri lasting another full season and I think a dignified retirement, or a move back to Italy, may be best for all parties.

As for his replacement, my preferred choice would be Eddie Howe but it would be a struggle to tempt him from Bournemouth. I suspect the owners will go for another experienced manager in the Ranieri/Sven mould. Someone like a Hiddink or a Pellegrini would be my guess.

Of course, that depends on which league we're in. If it's the Championship, then a Rowett or Wagner would be ideal.

Sorry to pick on an individual word but I've never understood why people put Bruce in that category. His record in relegation battles is abysmal.

Depends what you class as 'abysmal'. He managed to keep perennial strugglers Wigan and Sunderland up, and kept Birmingham and Hull up after their initial promotions before eventually going down with both.

I think Ranieri has enough credit in the bank with the owners to get the full season due to last year, what ever that may bring. Remember they stuck by Pearson during the dire run of 14/15 and it was only his off field antics that led to his near miss sacking in March 15. However, this will almost certainly lead to changes over the summer unless there is a dramatic change of fortune over the next 4 months. I think we will have enough to scrape through, primarily due to the dire teams below us rather than anything else. There will then need to be a significant rebuild at the club in the summer. Problem I do foresee is that we are saddled with a large number of 30+ players for the next 3 years on contracts that mean they won't be going elsewhere.

I was working on the assumption we stay up but the Calibre of manager out there will still be risky to our future even with that happening.

Ok, so maybe he's slightly better than Mick McCarthy, but he always takes them down eventually. I find Steve Bruce is a nice enough bloke but one of the most overrated managers in the game.

Ranieri will be here for the rest of this season and rightly so.

The only reason to replace him is if we nose dive and he loses the dressing room.

Back to basics for me it playing with the same high energy as we did last year. Pressing from the front in a 4-4-1-1 that the players know and understand.

If that doesn't work, I'm out of ideas. Ranieri has tried most things in recent games - you can't suggest he's not tried different things! I think the only formation we've not seen is 0-0-10!!!

If Ranieri does go it deserves to be on his own terms. I still think he is an excellent manager. He won the title for us with this group of players, as you say a move upstairs could work for all.

If we look to the Championship there are plenty of good options, Garry Monk would interest me, especially if Leeds don't go up and we survive. He was excellent for Swansea who have bombed since his departure and he is finally getting Leeds back in shape after all these years.

Wagner is flavour of the month cos he worked with Klopp but I wouldn't want him here.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Leeds fans will tell you that Monk is a very poor manager. He brought together a bunch of scrappers and nomads, and got a couple of lucky results, makes him look like old rednose himself. Believe me, you are better off without him. Suppose we'll just have to put up with him until something better comes along.
By the way, very sorry to see the predicament you are in, as I thoroughly enjoyed your performances last year. Especially Vardy's goal against Liverpool. Magic.

After last season's "miracle" I am amazed that anyone could think of sacking Ranieri. Take last season out of the equation and you are still much better off now.
Think last season has blinded you to the realities of EPL football.

That's a big question though, are we?

It should also be noted that very few Leicester fans want CR out now but I think many think he'll go in the Summer.

TB i think its the players that are going to be leaving in the summer for us to progress forward they need to be happy on the ball and the skills to play different formations those that can't deserve to lose their job much more than the manager.

All the suggestions of replacements seem more of a lets get a championship manager in to play championship football. Rather than how to we progress forward as a club. To much player power we can't let them hold us back

Nev, what you're really saying is we need a completely new team then, about 13-15 new players?

posted on 23/1/17

I'm not sure I see a lot of point in Ranieri leaving in the summer. Either we're concerned about a relegation slide now or he'll turn it around, surely? Plus, I still think this season is a massive hangover from the last, something of a transition period within the squad and a continued struggle from pre-season upheaval that has just continued to spiral as the season's gone on. (I remain concerned that the players aren't fit enough.)

Most of the players in the squad should be fine, but something's stopping them reaching their potential and playing as a team. I think it's mental and to do with an attachment to last season. Ranieri has to get them to overcome that. There are very few squad players who might be getting past it. (Wasilewski yes, Morgan maybe, Mahrez might well move on, plus I suppose the jury's still out for several new-ish signings).

Regarding puffin's point, I think that's very easy to say from the outside but this season is a different situation to the great escape one. Then, we were in games, arguably not getting what we deserved considering the effort put in, and the question marks were over the ability of the players and the tactical nous of the manager. Now, we're not in many games, not applying collective effort to matches (distinct from individual effort), getting arguably more than we deserve and the question marks are over the character of the players and the ability of the manager to inspire them. As is often said, it's not about the results so much as the manner of them. We are capitulating time and time again. (Puffin, ignore what you saw of us when we played Spurs, both last season and this, those matches were exceptions to the norm and gave Spurs fans a false impression of what we were about.)

TB i'm saying last year was a one off everone has worked that out and unless we can do better alround the we are going back to be like NP's and others team to good for the championship not good enough for the premiership.

Kasper- i still feel we need a better keeper
Simpson- could again do with someone better going forward.
Huth,Morgan Wez and Fuch- not going to get any better and might be in decline need replacing. Chilwells the start there.

Midfield that process has started King not going to get any better being replaced Marhez will probably leave.
Ulla and Ozi need to be replaced by better.

Slim and Vardy and now Musa

So change is happening TB and i am guessing the old boys don't like it

Chopping a winning team all at once rarely has a positive effect, Nev. Evolution not revolution.

And to evolve, we're going to need better from the recent signings than many have shown so far. Fair enough to give them time, but they need to start showing more next season or else be Kramarditched.

And we need a better keeper than Kasper, who is consistently subject of speculation that top 4 clubs, let alone other Premier League clubs, are interested in bidding? Sorry Nev, but .

posted on 23/1/17

We are evolving already but maybe now quicker.

As for Kasper the day a top for club puts an offer in for him i will run round Qatar in my filbert fox underpants.
