Has Deadline Day lost its appeal?

SSNHQHD have overhyped it. And yes they take their ability to talk absolute ballacks to new heights.

Ooooooo here's Berbatov walking along a glass walled corridor for the 28th time this hour.

See my thread on those going to the grounds if you want JA infamy:

I hate transfer windows as they are, epitomises what's wrong in football.

Small fortunes are spent on X & Y cos some good at football guy is a media sensation. So millions are chucked at something that really doesn't matter in the slightest instead of something important like education or healthcare.

Then rumours are created by the betting websites that profit from it so that the lower classes can have even more of their money taken away from it.

Then Sky Sports pri*ks market the craaaaap out of a nothing story to saturate the news with stuff we don't care about. 'Omg Wilshere posted a picture of chicken on his snapchat, he is going to Tottenham!!!!'. Anything for views instead of saying actual news.

Football is just the worst.

Yes. It's been too long that there's been any really memorable deals completed on deadline day. I can't recall any deals of note on deadline day since Ozil which was more than 3 years ago. From a personal point of view though, I don't want Spurs doing deals on the final day unless we're offloading deadwood.

Got the day off today to recover from holiday, didn't initially realise it was deadline day at the time whereas years ago I often considered taking the day off just to keep up with all the news.

£90m just for staying in the PL once the new TV deal starts paying out.

It's only lunch time, lads.

Summer one can be quite exciting but January nothing ever really happens and if it has it's happened before deadline day

Exactly. It almost passed me by. Rather than actively looking forward to it, and religiously following BBC Sport or SSN - as I would once have done - I had to remind myself that today was actually deadline day. I think even SSN, despite saying otherwise, realise the best of the Deadline Days are now behind us. Nothing is going to beat the Carroll-Suarez-Torres year for sheer WTFness, so they're always on a hiding to nothing.

I think the fact that big transfer fees are no longer shocking, but commonplace, is also partly responsible for the lack of interest. When Carroll went to Liverpool for £35m, that was really, really big money. You'd only spend £35m on a player that was really, really special, not someone who had had a few decent seasons for Newcastle. Also, back in 2011, £50m was the British-record transfer fee - the idea that anyone would go for £50m was crazy. Now, though, £50m is par for the course.

Only because we are a settled squad. If we needed first team players we would be glued to the window.

I'd like a very creative CM like Dahoud or Calhanoglu but there's no chance of that happening.

This is true. I think, when you have a settled team and no need for reinforcements, that interest in transfers is that much lower. If I was a Sunderland, Hull, Palace or West Ham fan, I'd probably be a bit more excited. Even then, I just don't think it holds the same appeal that it did a few years ago, when it felt like more of an event.

Settled or not we need another forward. Yet there is no point in spending for the sake of it, be sensible and if the opportunity doesn't arrise dont persue it.

We shouldn't be making prominent signings late on though unless it's as a result of the domino effect from other transfers. We shouldn't be rushing round like we did in September with Sissoko

From Poch a few days ago:

He also said that he did not envisage any additions to his squad before next Tuesday’s transfer deadline. “We have a strong squad – enough to compete in the next four months. It’s not impossible [to sign a player] – 1% maybe – but I don’t believe we will.”

Sadly it would a left field signing if we did and it would be one that would be passed around the clubs like vdv.

Our director of football doesn't start until July we have no one in charge of scouting or indeed transfers for now.

It's a yawn. Even 'Sky deadline day' journos look more bored than usual. Only semi interesting thing for me is Dembele Jnr is in London having a knee scan on an existing injury. Don't they have scanners in Glasgow?

I`d take him on a short term deal until the end of season, he could be a useful squad member what with 2 cups and the league to go at.
