If he gets top 4, he's met his brief, simple
As a United fan, this is great news.
One less title challenger for at least 2 years guaranteed.
Jesus. I know a lot of Arsenal fans on here are tools but you gotta feel sorry for them. It is Groundhog Day.
He doesn't consistently fail. He's won two FA cups comparatively recently, and always gets top four. His teams generally play attractive football, and he's not the biggest spender.
He's a greedy businessman's dream. Keeps us in tidy profit. The board don't give 2 fecks what we win, doesn't really add much money. Compared to amount of money you'd probably have to spend to get it. So long as we have good sponsorship, over priced tickets, and CL money rolling in, they are more than happy.
We compare everyone to Fergie, so they're all failures

You have a good memory. I can't recall when united last challenged for anything much at all. And even Wenger keeps finishing above you.

Mate I like you, but were you born happy? This man has fooled people like you for 13 years into thinking he is a good manager, the guy is stagnating their club with poor tactics and poor performances. It's the same routine with him, every year he starts bottling the title race around this time of the month.
Arsenal don't play attractive football either, they haven't for years. They've created the least chances in the top 6 this season too.

Its a far cry from his early days at the club where he regularly put a real challenge in for the title though

Spent £300m in last 4 seasons (over £200m net) without selling anyone who was playing a part in the squad.
Should be more than enough to turn us into challengers, and is more than a fair amount to expect a real title challenge from the position we were in 4 years ago.
Winning the FA Cup doesn't show progress either. We proved that with Van Gaal. That Hull comeback in 2014 is turning out to be the worst thing to ever happen to Arsenal. Wenger was set to retire if they ever lost it.

you have to laugh if true I the timing front. That said, too 4 is pretty much what we are hoping for...after breaking transfer records and spending over half a billion. I'm not laughing too hard.
Wenger is a banker for Arsenal.....read that anyway you like.

But top 4 this season would be the plan to move forward from and then to challenge.
If Arsenal are happy with top 4 then he never has to prove anything else to keep his job
Well arsenals trophy cabinet is full of the 'top 4 trophy' but that doesn't really apply to our spending.
If we go out and break transfer records and splash as much money as we've done in a few seasons then challenging and top 4 should be the minimum.
Fair point- Jose needs time. But it hasn't really stopped conte has it, lack of time?
Wenger tried to sign the contract back in the summer but just missed out.
I hope he stays
On a serious note though, if the board are happy for him to continue to not challenge for the top trophies despite the wealth they now have then surely they need to go too?

I did.
Arsenal fans.
That counts Arsenal out of being title challengers until 2020. I could put my mortgage on it.

Exactly. But we're not, by any stretch of the imagination, challenging for a title, the current holder of which is Leicester City.
So you have to ask yourself, why offer Wenger a contract extension then - assuming this is legit?
The answer seems simple.
We have zero ambition, beyond 'selling the franchise globally'.
Post-Highbury we have been an absolute joke.
We have zero ambition, beyond 'selling the franchise globally'.

But that makes no sense. How do you sell a football club globally? Win titles, break transfer world records, change managers...
