This U23s side isn't a stand out iteration.
Tuanzebe is the real deal, as is Riley.
For me, Goss, Mitchell and, to a lesser extent, Harrop, McTominay and Willock have potential. Although most of them are at the age at which they really need to be showing it week in, week out.
There are big problems beyond the talents of the individual players though, most notably the fact that they've gone nearly the whole season without a single recognised striker in the squad. Harrop has been deputising most often, but he's just not a number nine, at all. With Goss out for a good chunk of the season, we've also been very light on talent in the centre of the park. This has left the side massively unbalanced, and resulted in all kinds of tinkering from one week to the next.
There's also the fact that we lost Joyce, and that Butt doesn't seem to know what he's doing before or during games
Next season should be much better. For one, we'll have Gribben stepping up permanently, along with Buffonge, Ro-Shaun, Hamilton, and one or two other strong talents, possibly including Chong.
For two, we should have a more balanced squad. And for three, we should have a proper coach in charge.
In the meantime, as you suggest, we should stick to watching the superbly entertaining U18s.
*Gribbin
It's also worth pointing out that Rashford, TFM, Januzaj, Wilson, Varela, CBJ and Pereira could all still be playing for the U23s if they hadn't stepped up already or been sent away on loan.
Rosso - has Goss left for QPR?? I wasn't sure if that transfer went through or not?......... I just cant fathom how a club as large as United have ended up with no striker at that level...... and surely they should have looked to resolve the issue in January?!
Yeah Goss went to QPR.
Didn't we have similar issues a few years ago with the majority of the under 21 squad being gutted after winning the title?
Tuanzebe looks a real prospect, and Mitchell definitely has talent but I'm struggling to see a future at United for many of the others. The 18' on the other hand....
Yeah Mourinho won't be here by the time the under 18's are ready so they're the best bet.

Fack, I'd completely missed the Goss transfer
Hope we've put a buy-back clause in the deal; he's a classy footballer. (There's no way we've put a buy-back clause in the deal.)
I don't know how we even started the season without a striker! Demi Mitchell played up top for the U18s on occasion, but he's not a bona fide centre forward, in any traditional sense of the term. McTominay has been tried there, but his size, strength and aerial ability aside, he's not a natural CF either.
It's quite baffling really. Maybe Jose had planned to send Rashford back down

Riley looks a real prospect to me. Given Shaw and Darmian's continuing failures to impress, maybe he and/or CBJ will get a chance in the summer.
I'd be excited to see Pereira given a chance on the left as well.
Doubt any of these players will get much of a look in.

If they impress enough, they'll get a chance.
Do you genuinely believe that? Mourinho isn't going to put his faith in any of those players. He's in no position to do so.
