Mentality (rant)

So you want an experienced, older head mentality from a youthful team? The only way you get that is by signing players who've been playing since they were 18/19 which we don't do because our scouts are 5hite.

Can talk about mentality but the bottom line is our squad is weak. Sissoko, Winks and Janssen to turn a game?

Before the game, I had put this game down as a loss or at best a draw so perhaps not as mad as some. For me Pool are the best at pressing the opposition and we are a team that don't have the players to handle it especially away from home . It's our Achilles heel and our worst performances in Poch's era have been against opposition managers who press us.
If our fans don't understand the makeup of our team by now there is something wrong .not really sure what some are expecting

When everybody's fit and in form we are a match for anyone. Squad depth is poor however. Not having the likes of Jan, Rose and Lamela available seriously weakens us. Poch didn't adapt to our obvious Achilles Heel on the left today and our attacking trio of Kane, Son and Alli were non threatening particularly Harry again. All over the pitch we couldn't deal with the Liverpool press and no tactics in place to counter it which was disappointing as it was obvious that they would be doing that. Poch has to an extent become more astute but has to still improve in that department.

Disagree about Kane.
He was back defending a lot of the time.
Not his fault if the midfield is overrun and weak performances from Davies and Dier turn the game into a nightmare.
Thank God for Wanyama.

Yes our depth is poor but Poch keeps facking up away from home. How can we, a team who press, be so extremely easily to press against? Liverpool's press is way better than ours anyway because a) they create more pressure, but b) they actually have defenders at the back rather than our stupidly high line

Wanyama is good at was he does but he's not quick in mind when it comes to playing against a press. Got what we paid for there.

You need players who can think quick on the ball there and who've got their head up before they get the ball. Arsenal did it reasonably well against Barca in 2011

I just don't understand, surely in training while we practice the press, one of the sides will be the team being pressed. So how can we be so bad at it. Facking stupid

Extremely naive tactics from Poch, made it so easy for us today.

Yes, but we dont have Mane to practice with.
Davies simply got into a panic.

Our pressing game is not as good as we believe. Without Lamela involved and Harry looking isolated there isn't much to offer in that aspect. We are also easily rattled by a team that has a good high tempo pressing game which was proved again today.

Should have gone a bit more direct at the start and then press you when you got it to see how you coped with it. Wanyama and Dembele don't have the vision to play against a good press

Ah yes, PLG .... Sooner we get Lamela back the better.
I've been making that point a lot.
But lack of Rose and Vetonghen were critical today.

Can't blame Kane for today's game. The teams passing was shocking so unless we expected him to come deep and dribble like Messi I'm not too sure what he could have done

Which made the lack of a plan to offer Davies some extra protection against a dangerous speed merchant like Mane today very perplexing and extremely naive. Poch has just said in his interview that there was no problem with that issue today???

I haven't seen Poch's interview, but .... if THAT is his take on our first 20 minutes, he must be on another planet.

Kane's hold up play and bringing others in to play is weak. Also he should try laying the ball of quicker when it's on. As a lone striker in difficult games he has a lot of improvement to make.

I don't think that is fair.
Kane was doing his bit in defense at every corner they had.
If anyone went missing today it was Delli Alli.

Harry despite his decent goals tally thus far this season has I would suggest had just as many poor/average performances as good ones so far. He certainly has not been as dynamic and consistent as the previous two seasons. Perhaps his earlier in the season injury and the arrival of baby Kane has taken the sharpness out of his game. I'm sure he will improve soon however but for now he is underperforming.

He would have scored today if only Son had crossed the ball to him in the middle instead of trying a tight angle shot.
And although I was only watching on TV I saw Kane putting in a shift in defense and midfield.

Wouldn't agree with the child excuse at all. He became a parent 5 weeks ago yet the team has been struggling by all accounts for 3 weeks so don't know how their linked. Unless him having a child has affected everyone.....?

Depends I suppose.. doing night feeds then start work at 6am affected me but not sure Kane would have that problem tbh

Even if he does night feeds etc they don't go training till what 10 then home by 2 for a afternoon nap

The baby excuse is a bit tenuous fair enough, his injury has probably been more of a factor. Just trying to make sense of why he seems more lacklustre in his performances recently.

Somehow that performance was even worse than the man city one. Absolutely pathetic from start to finish and everyone needs a long look at themselves from poch with the awful tactics to Kane who couldn't trap a bag of cement

Eriksen should be docked a weeks wages for not being able to take a throw in. How unprofessional can you get?!?

Lloris and dier were a joke. Davies was awful but had no protection. The attack was toothless. Wanyama was the worst i have seen him. Walker awful. Dembele awful they were all absolutely shocking to be perfectly honest.

Worst thing is that I knew it was coming but hoped for something different. We are now in a proper top 4 battle. 3 from 5 and I am very unconvinced that we will get a place.

Goes without saying that that performance was worse than the City one; we did at least show the character in that to come back from 2 goals down.

It was a tactically naive performance. We played like we didn't expect Liverpool would be that good. They were always going to raise their game for us. We should have approached it differently and changed the system but we predictably played into their hands and made it easy.

Of course it didn't help with the lack of a full strength defence but that shouldn't be an excuse to then start looking like a shambles at the back.

Still not ready for a proper title challenge yet I guess. Probably end up with that usual 4th place points range of somewhere between the high 60's and low 70's. Fine if we're going to win silverware, otherwise not enough of an improvement.
