Spurs have played like 2 times in total in the CL?

Arsenal have played every season for 20 odd years.

Not fair to judge them on 2 CL seasons in total.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We did alright in our first attempt, made a QF which I understand means we've reached a CL QF more recently than Arsenal, so technically we can laugh at them. This team is a lot younger and was playing home ties at Wembley in a deceptively hard group, but even with those issues the performances still weren't good enough.

Clubs don't generally just qualify for the CL and then balance playing in the league and the CL well, look at Leicester this year, can't cope in the league doing well in the CL.

Spurs had a bad time of it this season, many reasons why, but it is all a learning curve for the club and especially the manager.

I said on an earlier thread united struggled for a good few seasons to make any impact in the CL, Fergie learnt his lessons, learnt how to balance domestic with the European and then 99 happened.

Easy to laugh and say you're pathetic or whatever, harder to look back and think logically about it

It's always easy for some people to lean back on flukey CL campaigns, and forget just how tough the competition is.

You only have to look at how long it's taken City to make a dent after a number of consecutive campaigns. Even with their massive influx of cash, Chelsea still had to go through quite a few dissapointments before they could win it.

exactly, you build the culture within the club through being in the competiton over and over again, City is a great example.

It's why for me I think Arsenal have really underperformed in Europe, one final in like 20 years under the same manager is no way good enough. They should have won it IMO, or at least far more final / semi final appearances.

Arsenal have suffered through Wenger being so tactically limited.

He never tries anything different.

Usually a team would grow into the competition over a number of years as the players and manager develop tactically to cope with the different challenges.

Wenger has never adapted or even tried to adapt. It's just the same thing every year with the hope it all comes perfectly together one year.

On Spurs group, I do think Monaco are a much better team than anyone expected them to be, but Leverkusen are not having a good season in Germany and should have been beatable while CSKA are not a good team.

Thank you for putting us straight on this, I promise never to laugh and enjoy Arsenal getting thrashed ever again. If I see anybody dancing and whooping when such things happen I shall be sure to chastise them.

You can't really do anything in the Champions League without a proper well-drilled defence. You can score your way to a league title, but you'll definitely get found out over 180 minutes of a CL knockout game.

That's always been our Achilles heel.

Just look at Madrid during the Ivan Helguera years.

The banter is always welcome. I had to watch the entire game sandwiched between 5 Tottenham-supporting mates at an English expat bar.

But even THEY would agree that it would be cringeworthy for anyone older than 12, going around waving the "we've qualified for a Quarterfinal more recently than you" flag.

You'd kill for a lifetime of mediocrity having spent most of your life foraging for food in bins, sleeping in public toilets and being treated for infectious diseases.

Cockroach telling about it's daily struggles.

To be fair Wenger has one thing going for him, no matter how far behind Arsenal are of Spurs and how crap they are they somehow finish above Spurs normally by a point
