666, there are about 7 or 8 players in our team worse than Keogh. Why don't you have a pop at them and leave our captain alone for a while?

De Sart tries hard and is a young lad, but some of his passes were very poor and he is another lightweight. Is Johnson injured? Why oh why haven't we got a proper defensive midfield player? It's been the same since Thorne got his first injury.

------------------------------

A couple of his stray passes where instinctive and to where the player should have been. Nugent was the same when he came on, he showed the intelligence and movement that none of our players are capable of

We created 1? shot on target last night, and 1 one other decent chance??

Bent offers virtually nothing apart from occasionally being in the right place for a tap-in.

FFS they played a 6/4/0. Get some creativity on there earlier with Vydra and Nugent, surely.

I agree, I was looking forward to seeing a 4-4-2 with Vydra and Nugent but he brought Nugent on with about 10 to go and only made two subs. McClaren is losing the plot at the moment. Our wings where totally ineffectual too.

posted on 22/2/17

We are in desperate straights if we think Vydra is going to be the answer to our problems.

Yes Spart I've caught the "if a player hasn't played for a while, he becomes better than I thought when I last saw him" disease. Sorry about that.

However I would still rather see Vydra on the left than the 2 headless chickens. I know I shouldn't say this.................I would play Nugent and Vydra in a front 2 as Iwas has said. We can't get much worse, can we?

I had a sandwich for my lunch, lovely bread it was Warburtons.

Totally agree tommo.
Those qualities have been in short supply in our play this season and especially since we shipped our most intelligent footballer to Fulham.

I will never moan about a player trying to get the ball forward quickly and accurately. If he makes a mistake then live with it.

Most of our signings come into the club having played well in a particular position then played out of position. Vydra is one of those. He will never be a Chris Martin. Let's see him alongside another CF and see what they can do.

Ince should be forced to play the 3 touch rule.

Tommo, Ang, de Sart made more than a couple of stray passes. He makes very ambitious passes bur some are intercepted putting us in danger. He needs to temper his creativity and ambition with a bit of caution. Against a better team those passes would be a liability. As it was they took the pressure off Burton last night.

It is probably worth a try, playing Vydra alongside Nugent. We have run out of ideas so what have we got to lose.

Some of DeSaarts passing out Burton under pressure.

...but are those players held aloft as the shining example of all a player should be, like the unstoppable Keogh? FFS, he's warranted dropping when he was alongside Shackell and alongside Pearce but has he been? No, he's been hailed as "magnificent throughout" and such 5hit. Absolute rammel.

And hark at Spurt, saying de Sart should be more cautious in one breath and then slamming the pedestrian pace and sideways passing in another; are you Clement in disguise?!!

Ang: can't see past Ince for PoTY so far.

Good job you are not in the Derby squad and "up" for PotY 666, as there is absolutely no way anyone could see past you under any circumstance.

Against a counter attacking team like Barnsley, who are our next opponents at Pride Park, if de Sart's long passes are intercepted, our defence will be under intense pressure.

My PotY is Keogh.

My Poty, Matej Vydra or Jamie Hanson.

I actually think we are better equipped to try 442 now. Nugent has undoubted class and must start but he isn't a lone centre forward. I think he and Bent showed they had an understanding with the chance in injury time when Nugent headed under pressure to Bent who nodded it back to Nugent who slightly miss timed the volley. It was a well worked opportunity.
I think Baird would see Nugent's runs and has the passes to pick him out so it would be the Irishman over Christie at RB for me. Ince would stay on the wing but Johnson played his best football at Norwich on the left of a midfield diamond so I'd play him there then it's deSart at DM and Hughes at the front of the diamond. I'm happy with Ollsen at LB and have no particular issues with either centre half.
On paper it seems OK and I think we could play it for rest of the season.
I think we are out of play off contention so this would be the ideal chance to finally learn a plan b.
Incidentally I think Martin and Nugent could be a terrific partnership next season.

I am beginning to think Hughes is not much longer for Derby County. He has seemed dispirited to me and must be fed up of being brutally treated by most defences, undoubtedly under managerial instruction. He is far too clever and subtle for us I think.

And, with the need for reconstruction during the summer, there will be a general clearing out. I will be sorry to see him go but it looks on the cards to me.

Rameses knows

I'd like to see Vydra alongside Nuge though and a passer on the left hand side of the diamond but it is putting player where they belong and not out of position.

I was thinking about the team today. Something to give us a different look for Saturday. I would definately play Nugent...and just behind him i would play Vydra. Thats where Vydra played his best football and give him a chance to answer all the critics. Ince stays in as i would play a 4-2-3-1...Bradley Johnson would come in at the left side of the 3 to show us all why he got player of the year at Norwich. The centre midfield 2...Butterfield and Hughes. Back 4 does not change from Tuesday...neither does the keeper.

Think the only thing that lets him down is his lack of pace or I reckon he'd have gone long before now.

Like this post.

We are not in danger of going down so why not try a plan B, it's obvious from reports that Nugent is a very clever player and needs to start, we need his vocals early on and that's my worry with McClaren, he seems incapable of actually trying something new.

Well now is the time, Villa next up, even more wounded than us, if he goes down the same route as in previous games and it give them a lift with 3pts, crap will be hitting the fan.

...so to find a spot for our most expensive player ever, you play the our most talented one in a deeper role alongside Butters?

Go home Backo; you're drunk.

I thought you said Hughes was carp anyway?

Hughes is lucky to be in the team after the last 3 games let me tell you. Yes ive found a spot for both of our record signings. Before we chuck em in the wheelie bin lets see what they are made of. Paul Clement & Nigel Pearson spent heavily on these players. They will be worthless if we dont try and get something out of them. The only way to do that is get them on the pitch.

I like the look of that team, Backo, not just saying that.

ANYTHING has to be better than crap we saw from Bent the other night. 2 (?) chances created all night against a poor-looking Burton side.

At least Vydra would look lively, hungry and offer some pace.

Nugent made a difference when he came on (which was far too late). Playoffs now highly unlikely, let's give it a go.

posted on 23/2/17

I too like Backo's team but with one exception - De Sart starts alongside Butterfield, with a clearly half fit Hughes left out.
