Blessing in disguise getting knocked out a competition when you never win anything? Do you fans not want to see what a trophy looks like?

Silly question. I could quite easily ask you what's the worst thing to win out of the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup. Obviously it's the FA Cup, but does that mean it's a competition to be laughed at? Absolutely not.

Agreed Silverware is Silverware, and the blessing in disguise is that we may actually go on and do something in the FA Cup and still get top 4 (something i would of doubted if we were still in europe)
But the league cup is still the worse piece of silverware in the PL

That's the luck of the draw, doesn't mean the competition is 5hit.
Barca won the champs league in 2015 by beating City, PSG, Bayern and Juventus in the knockouts (all reigning domestic champs at the time) but then Real Madrid won it by beating Roma, Wolfsburg, City and Atleti which is clearly far easier - doesn't mean the CL suddenly went from awesome to awful within 12 months
FYI I'd rather win the capital one cup than the Europa

I thought pre match that it wouldnt be the worst thing if we lost the tie. (Travelling around Europe, extra games etc) ofcourse i would love to see us winning it but I know MoPo isnt a fan

I`m not bothered at all about going out of the Europa, the whole tournament is a complete farce and we should never have been parachuted into it in any case.
I just wish Poch had not played so many first team players, who have now had to play an hour with 10 men 3 days before a PL game. I am now expecting a poor performance against Stoke on the back of this.
I said before we should concentrate on the PL and FA Cup and sack off the Europa, and this is what we should have done.

Its all about expectations in football. When the fans get greedy expectations are higher, Arsenal are the biggest example of this. They believe they should win a trophy and challenge for the title
This will result in negativity between fans and more than likely the sacking of a manager.
I always remember when Charlton sacked Curbishley because they began to expect top 4/6 and look at them now

When we start winning League / FA Cups and reaching finals of the Europa League, I'd say start looking at bigger picture. Teams like Sevilla or Atletico should be our blueprint. Europa stalwarts, eventual winners, now Champs League regulars with winning mentality.
We're far from being too big for any trophy on offer. I'd rather win a League Cup and finish 5th, than finish 4th and crash out of the Champs League group stages and last 32 of Europa.
Yes this humiliation in the Europa clears up our season to focus on the Top 4, but why is that a good thing, when we exit both tournaments in the early stages the following season? We haven't won a trophy for ages and keep getting embarrassed in Europe, yet fans think losing to Gent is a blessing?
Spurs have won naff all and still sacked managers. Barca have won loads and still sacked managers. The two are unrelated.
Right now we're slightly behind where Leeds under O'Leary or Newcastle under Bobby Robson got to in the early 2000s. They fared better in Europe, had a couple of Top 4 finishes, but didn't win anything - not winning anything partly meant they couldn't elevate up to the next level.
Same will happen to us unless we get a trophy or 2, be it the League Cup, Europa or FA cup. Which is why I think exiting a tournament is never a good thing.

Right now we're slightly behind where Leeds under O'Leary or Newcastle under Bobby Robson got to in the early 2000s. They fared better in Europe, had a couple of Top 4 finishes, but didn't win anything - not winning anything partly meant they couldn't elevate up to the next level.
Same will happen to us unless we get a trophy or 2, be it the League Cup, Europa or FA cup. Which is why I think exiting a tournament is never a good thing.
