I am not for one minute suggesting we rely on Defoe, we have 2-3 other strikers too - but in the right team against the right opposition he can be a great asset
but of course, this argument is not taking into account that once VDV is fit we will be back to one up top no matter who we are playing against - cause Harry is just too one dimensional
I definitely rate JD over Pav who I feel is just way too lazy for the PL
---------------------------------------------------------------------
To be honest to me thats like rating Crouch as better than Rasiak. Yes Crouch is better but they are both pretty poor IMO.
Look at the top sides in the country and look at their forwards. Is there anybody who would not swap Defoe for Sturridge ? Yes he is 3rd or 4th choice for chelsk!!!.
Look at citys options or utd's, or pools for that matter. Sorry but the only striker we have on the books who would stand a chance of getting into one of the other top sides is Adebayor, Defoe would stand no chance at any of them.
I don't think anyone is saying Defoe is class
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
But VDV is! Someone remind me how many goals he scored last season, whilst playing poor strikers, despite playing in the hole or right wing? How many did our out and out strikers score? How many did he assist compared to our strikers? I think most people realise there is a big chance he and Ade will form a formidable partnership.
JD might be in a rut at the moment, but its not like we have a vast amount of players to choose from, get behind the team thats all that matters

A very logical and rational point!!
And the sad thing is, Ade doesn't even belong to us!

Sorry mate but in my opinion we dont have 2/3 strikers. They may be strikers in name but there it ends, neither Defoe or Pav is anywhere near good enough for a team with top 4 ambitions and to be honest I dont think a VDV/Adebayor partnership is going to be the answer either. IMO we desperately need another top striker.
Ofcourse we will get behind the team regardless, but we here to express our opinion as every fan has the right to do. Won't change Harry's team selection, but that's what 606 is about
I was extremely dissapointed we didn't get another striker, as i felt a complete overhaul would have been the correct thing to do after last season. The reason why the top teams do so well is because they are ruthless when it comes to under performing players.
JD is a goal-poacher. Unfortunately his bag has been near empty for too long. He looked lively today from what I saw of him and I get the feeling playing alongside Ade could see him bagging some goals. Whether they'll play together much is probably unlikely.
Why is there so much negativity? we just won. both strikers scored. kept a clean sheet
We can't do anything about our strikers till Jan

yes, VDV is class - but there were games last season where one up top was not working - and it was not just due to the one up top.
there are times when Harry needs to use a little more nouse - we cannot always play 4-4-1-1
JD is a goal-poacher
------------------------------------------------------------------
Actually he is not far from it.Defoe is a play on the shoulder of the last defender striker and cannot play any other way.
Thats the main reason he will never play for one of the top sides and the same applies to Bent.
The better sides obviously push their opponents back into their own penalty areas meaning that their strikers cannot rely on the ball being played in behind defences, They need to be able to play with their backs to goal (as its termed in football) this involves a very good first touch and the abiity to knock theball off first time and to combine with little one twos in tight situations. That is why Defoe will never star for a top side because he simply cant do that, the same applies to Bent as well. Its also why Carroll at pool will never be a top player IMO.
Look at the likes of Rooney, Berbs, Hernandes, Anelka, Drogba etc. etc. They can all do that and thats why they are so highly valued.
Why is there so much negativity? we just won
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Its not negativity its realism. The win gives us 3 points and an insight into how we are playing and what we may achieve this season.
Yes we are all positive that we got 3 points but we are also positive that the sort of performance we put in today will not see us challenging the top sides.
Look at what we are chasing as in utd 3 nil up in the first half at Bolton ????
"Look at what we are chasing as in utd 3 nil up in the first half at Bolton ????"
Let's be honest though grandspur, United and City are on a different planet. But we got a team capable of definetly getting 4th again this season. I'm still not convinced by Liverpool mate and i believe we will teach them a lesson next weekend at the lane
@Don
I agree on the pool thing but I dont believe in settling for 2nd best so we should be aiming to compete with utd and city no matter how good they are.
I'm confident we can push on and come January we will be sitting pretty.
But to be honest we can forget about 4th
There is so much negativity on Defoe and after a good win. Lets not forget we have struggled against Wolves in the past, so to get 2 goals and a clean sheet is a good thing. Now onto Defoe, some of the criticism on him is harsh. He had a poor season last season but he is well above average. So what do these same people reckon we should have stuck to Crouch then huh? What have Crouch and VDV as our strikeforce, which only worked on a couple of occasions.
Like many others will agree, Defoe and Adebayor will shape up to be a fantastic strike force. Im gonna refer to this article in a few months, so that the usual negative posters will realise Spurs are once again moving in the right direction.
To finish fourth we will need to pick up points against the top sides. Why have some people forgotten that it was nearly every game that Defoe had started last season that people were screaming for him to be hauled off? Even when Defoe was at his best, Keane was preferred.
And it is not negativity, we are merely responding to the article. We are putting our point across that, next week against Liverpool, Defoe will be found wanting if he starts, and we would need to be a more clever and mindful when playing against better opposition.
Well Defoe will start to be more confident if he starts to play more regularly, instead of being dropped to the bench a week after he scores in his previous match. Last season Harry was noted for dropping Defoe so he can opt for the not so effective Crouch and VDV partnership. The result against Man City at the the Eastlands at the end of last season was a prime example of these daft decisions.
Well said Teddy. I respect grandspurs as he always posts balanced, thoughtful opinions but I'm not ready to write off JD as a top tier prem striker despite his poor scoring record last season.
Next week we should play Carragher up front with Adebayor
What has Defoe done for some people to suddenly be so optimistic? He is almost 30 and, his best years are past him!
Let me ask this:
Defoe vs Rooney?
Defoe vs Berbatov?
Defoe vs Welbeck?
Defoe vs Hernandez?
Defoe vs Aguero?
Defoe vs Tevez?
Defoe vs Balotelli?
Defoe vs Dzeko?
Defoe vs Sturridge?
Defoe vs Anelka?
Defoe vs Torres?
Defoe vs Drogba?
Defoe vs Kalou?
Defoe vs Chamakh?
Defoe vs Van Persie?
Defoe vs Suarez?
Defoe vs Kuyt?
Defoe vs Bent?
Defoe vs Saha?
Defoe vs Rodallega?
Defoe vs Gyan?
Defoe vs Sessegnon?
Defoe vs Zamora?
Defoe vs Ba?
Defoe vs Odemwingie?
Defoe v Saha??? Defoe v Sessegnon? Defoe v Odemwingie? Think you missed out Defoe v Bendtner? Or Defoe v Klasnic? Oh sorry I forgor, Defoe v Heskey?
Please try and post some sensible stuff, not this kind of rubbish if you dont mind.
Reason why i didnt post them was because Defoe just about edges them, which is nothing to gloat about. A fit Saha, is twice the player of Defoe, and Odemwingie was one of the star performers last season. Do u even watch football? Who do u reckon scored more? Defoe or Odemwingie? Despite one playing for a better team with better attacking players?
Defoe 22 Apps 4 goals
Odemwingine 21 Apps 15 goals
Wanna post that laughing emoticon again or shall i do it for u this time?
