I'm shocked

Won't bore you all again but I had the most wonderful amazing hilarious night in his company on the absolute pash. He was and is a hero of mine and when I met him it was like being on the beer with an older guy down your local, he really could not have been a nicer man. A complete gent.

God bless Billy

Just read that an hour or so ago.

Had no idea he was diagnosed with dementia. Such a shame, and a ruthless disease.

Good to see his family all being so supportive.

Mick

Won’t open the link but good OP.

Nephew works with Sellick TV and has been updating me.

A steady decline with moments of lucidation.

Some occasions he’s 40 again then the overall signs are all too clear.

Conditions are not the same but he’s still had a much fuller tour of duty

than poor Fernando Ricksen.

BTW, sorry for asking this but as far as im aware BBC Scotland recorded us all in the hotel bar doing the huddle etc.. I've never seen it. Is there anyway to get hold of the archives?

My auld Maw has it, she is 80 and recognises me and a fair few others but has zero short term memory, from the powerful woman she was she now relies on me 3 times a day, to see such a hero of mine suffering similar is all too similar

Aw the best to him and his family, at least he seems to have a loving lot round him

My old Grandad has had it for a good few years now, horrible seeing someone you love deteriorate so much in a short space of time.Good that Billy has a good family behind him who are able to support and love him.

God Bless

You could see there was something not quite right when he did the CL Draw a few years ago now, it was terribly sad to see him like that.

A truly frightening prospect to have something like that

Very sad. A terrible affliction that affects so many and has taken members of my family. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Such sad news. A true legend for Celtic

Although it's a completely different disease Fernando Ricksen and motor neuron disease is truly horrific. How can a 40 year old man be trapped in his own body, that genuinely scares me.I hope i never have to deal with something like that.

Good idea Bubbs

Tim, what's happening to Fernando and so many many others is appalling.. i've got close friends since I was a child, who have went on to lose kids to cancer.. It can be a very very cruel world.

BB,

My Mrs's family got in touch with the BBC in reference to footage of her Grandfather as a union rep at an interview about pit closeures at his local coalmine in the 70's. They found the footage no probs, but charged £200 for no more than 2 minutes of reel.

She said it was well worth it.

Really really sad to see this happen to anyone, not least someone who was a hero to so many.

Jim McLean is in a similar bad way, so much so that he's now in a care home. I can only hope that I don't suffer that horrible disease.

I met Billy for the first time at a supporters' function 2 and a half years ago. Even then, the signs were there.

Shame on the poster who made fun of his condition on here a few weeks ago.

Billy is one of the few people still alive who have been heroes to me throughout my entire life.

I hear from a reliable source that Stevie Chalmers and Jim Brogan are similarly impacted, bless them. There must be something in this "ball heading" factor

I am 100% certain that our fans will show our support vocally for the King on Wednesday and beyond

It almost seems worse somehow when it's someone like Billy.

The memories he's being robbed of make this dreadful condition seem even more cruel if that's possible.

He has the support of his family and the extended football fraternity which is of some comfort.

Good luck to him and his family.
