It's was a blast back in the 80's.
I'm from Belfast and would recommend it to anyone.
Such a changed City and is buzzing at the moment. Unemployment is at its lowest level for many years.
House prices are very reasonable too.
I went last year and liked it. Pretty quiet and unassuming but the Titanic Museum is outstanding and I would also like to have done one of the "black taxi" tours. I did walk around the Falls Road area and along the Peace Wall.
And the Antrim Coast is spellbinding. Giant's Causeway, Dunseverick and Dunluce Castles, the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge... amazing place.
I live in Belfast. There are worse places and Belfast itself was obviously a no go zone at one time. There's a lot to like about Belfast though. Depends on what you're looking for. It's certainly not cheap when it comes to alcohol
Thought the peace wall was in Derry.

Thought the peace wall was in Derry.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There are numerous ones. I believe Derry has one too.
I went there in 2009 and thought it was a sh¡thole. Aggressive people, full of knackers. Thugs setting fire to a building. Cops everywhere. Kids throwing rocks at our car. An aggressive taxi driver. One lunatic standing in front of me holding up his hands mimicing he was going to shoot me. All in one day. Never going there again. I'd rather pork a rabid dog. Maybe things are better now but I'd be wary.

Probably best not to have worn that Rangers top down the falls road then
Peace walls are mainly in North and West Belfast.
Bro dude you must have been very unlucky to see so many incidents as trouble is very rare in the city centre and its changed for the better since 2009

Falls Road is full of scarves/flags of Celtic, Liverpool, Man Utd and Rep. of Ireland. I did see one guy in an Everton shirt, that's it. Even though it's peaceful you can still see the old divide. Other parts of the city have Union Jack bunting across the streets as if there's a royal wedding or something.
I didn't see any trouble at all but obviously wouldn't have fancied wandering around the estates after dark, but that's true over here too, I suppose.
Of all the wandering I did in Belfast, through falls road/shankhill/markets/city centre/sandy row..I never ever felt unsafe.
Go looking for trouble, troubles will find you.
It's the same in any city in the world.
Belfast is a great city with super people from both sides of the divide.
And as a previous poster pointed out, surrounded by beautiful scenery.
The majority have moved on and that usually wins out long term.
I live in Belfast. There are many nice areas but also many terrible ones. Like every city in the UK in that respect. I would say there are more mindless brainwashed idiots however. This is slowly changing as more and more people are growing up who haven't had family members killed. You still get people joining parliamilitaries despite the 'war' being over, who think it is their business to police their areas and who cause crap and run for backup when anybody stands up to them. Police know who they are but do nothing. Why would they? The government funds the parliamilitaries, hiding behind various initiatives. Several politicians were/are members and are able to help the funding go to the 'right' people.
So yeah it's not a city anybody should consider moving to, unless to one of the good areas.
Well said Igor. Belfast statistically has a very low crime rate, relative to most UK cities.
Went on a Belfast/Dublin trip in October and will be doing it again in June. Both great cities.
I lived there briefly and never saw any trouble tbf.
The weather sucks though! I thought it rained a lot in Glasgow...
Lived there for 27 years. I have a very love hate relationship with the city.
Moved away. haven't been back in about 8 years. Going back in September and I can't wait. Gonna go all tourist and hit up every sightseeing spot there is. Can't wait to take a dander up the cavey.
Definitely theres a lot of parts of the city to be avoided. Some people love to isolate themselves away from the real world, become brainwashed about them and us, live in constant fear of other people and cultures and basically hate anything that isn't themselves. It infuriates me just how backward some people can be.
Granted people, may argue that that population is in decline, but you just have to look at who is in government.
On the otherhand, the people can be the most welcoming and generous folks around. Its such an odd duality. I am sure anyone could go to belfast and have the time of their lives just enjoying the craic.
Think I would like to live there again. Its my hometown, it's part of me as a person, but don't see it ever happening for a variety of reason.
I can see how natives would get sick and tired of the tribal side of things, but I assume for most Belfast residents it has little interference on their daily lives. It struck me that most of the city is just like any other. The images subjected to me via news coverage of the troubles/parades were quickly vanished. The Victoria shopping arcade is impressive.
