Absolutely no way Surman should have been sent off, while Ibrahimovic and Mings remain on the pitch. Kevin Friend had already had a pretty dreadful first half, not giving fouls and letting the game go with some late challenges...that meant the players saw the ref wasn't going to protect them, and is why the half ended with violence. Don't forget Zlatan threw Mings to the ground earlier and the ref saw and didn't book him for it. The ref has no control on the game at all. If you see a player commit that kind of offence, you have to book them and get the players to cut it out. Not doing so only encourages players to keep at it. Mings needs a long ban after that, and so does Ibrahimovic. But Kevin Friend should not be refereeing at this level if he refs like that.

Man Utd will run out comfortable winners with a man advantage in the second half, but all the headlines will be about another ref bottling it at Old Trafford, which doesn't reflect how many chances Man Utd had in that half and how far they should already be out of sight...

I know I was pretty surprised

Probably a retrospective ban for Zlatan but could play into our hands a bit as he probably could do with a break. He'd be available for Europe though and Rooney or Rashford can deputise.
