Thats like watching WBA v Stoke and judging the PL on it.

AC Milan v Chievo was last night.

You spend your evening in a pub watching a replay of a game between two clubs you have no interest in?

Puffin

Italian football is a snoozefest, some technically great players but played at a snail's pace.

Just wondering what the overall standard was like, maybe the game was just a total dog.
What are the top teams like ?

I rather watch WBA or Stoke than any italian game. They play rubbish most of the times. Their stadiums are most of the time empty. The Bundesliga is an exciting league to watch. Stadiums are full, most of the teams play attacking football and there is talent on show.

Thanks for the comments guys

I remember when the Italian league was the best in Europe back in the early 90's and all the best players went there. All the big sides had loads of money but then it just crashed.

The great Milan side with Gullit, Van Basten, Baresi, Maldini was one of the best sides the world has seen.
AC Milan now are a pale shadow.

Juventus are the only top side now from Italy.

Apparently its super tactical and nothing like our football

Can't believe some of these comments. Italian football is undergoing a bit of a renaissance with regards to the competitiveness and quality in Serie A. I have seen a fair amount of games the last couple of seasons and I now prefer watching the Italian league to La Liga. Most of the games I have watched have been competitive, skilful and exciting, played at a high tempo with some great goals and many excellent players on show.

Using one low quality game as a tar to brush all Italian football as dire and uninspiring is so short sighted.

Napoli - 2.3 goals per game
Bayern - 2.4

Roma - 2.1
Dortmund - 2.2

Juventus - 2.1
Hoffenheim - 1.9

Torino - 1.9
Leipzig - 1.9

Doesn't really back up the super-attacking Bundesliga versus the super-defensive Serie A argument...

The top three scoring teams in Serie A have scored more than all PL teams bar Liverpool (less than Napoli, same as Roma).

I think people are stuck on stereotypes, tbh. And you all say you don't watch Serie A so how do you come to any conclusions about it?

People choose not to watch it but claim it's ponythat's the re choice

There's a good few entertainingsides in Serie A...Well worth watching

One of the best games I've seen this season was the recent match between Juventus and Inter Milan (1-0). Played at an incredible pace and high quality and settled by a wonderful strike by Juan Cuadrado.

Also as a Spurs fan I would love us to sign Andrea Belotti of Torino. In my opinion one of the best young strikers in Europe and after his hat trick today tops the Serie A goal chart.

Not sure where this "discussion" has gone. I saw part of 1 awful game so naturally asked others if it was typical.
As for the usual cherrypicking only the stats that suit YOUR argument is, as usual, complete nonsense.
Some say the football is good, most think it's poor, depends entirely on your yardstick. If you mostly watch poor EPL teams then maybe any other football looks good, there was even 1 poor deluded guy on here pleading that the standard of AFCON was quality - you couldn't make it up

--------
There are no stats that suit any other argument. That's why people who state they don't watch Serie A have nothing to back their opinion up with. They don't watch it, the stats don't back up their opinions, but you think that is still better than actually backing up an opinion with facts and figures?

The fact the stadia are usually half empty doesn't really add to the occasion.

OP

You create an article asking if anyone watches Italian football and condemn its appeal based on one match you saw. A few comments counter your view and now you wonder where the "discussion " has gone and make an accusation of cherry picking as well as claiming that someone said something about the quality of the AFCON where as far as I can make out you are the only one to mention the AFCON.

It's a fair question you ask "Anyone ever watch Italian football" but your subsequent comments to responses posted are confusing. Not sure what you expected or wanted to hear apart from perhaps agreement to your denigration of Italian football.

Serie A is usually good whenever I watch it.

Juve and Inter played out one of the most entertaining 1-0s I've seen in a very long time

Whenever I watch Serie A (admittedly not very often), I usually find its the atmosphere that makes the games I watch somewhat tepid. Is this an issue with the stadia or Italian fans, because the atmosphere seems better and the fans seem louder in England.
