Expecting so little

I thought we could win tonight.

Not a chance in hell now we gave no strikers. Likelihood is we will have Mkhitaryan as a false 9 or Fellaini upfront

And yes for me I would absolutely love to go through as you an not beat a day out at Wembley. Not fussed how exhausting it is for the players, I'm sure as a squad they can handle it

Why do you think most United fans don't care if we go out Robb?

posted on 13/3/17

Id be annoyed if we went out without giving it a go.
Especially with the teams in the semis, the winner would have really earnt the cup this year.
If our players cant play a game 3 times a week then it just goes to show how times and standards have changed.

Just the vibe I've been seeing. The loss (if we lose) will hurt a bit but imo the fans think the Europa is bigger and that's more what a lot of United fans would prefer

Ideally we'd win them all but with the circumstances surrounding tonight I doubt many United fans really have given progressing too much thought

The Europa is far more important to us

It's not about whether we can play three games a week

It's more about us playing teams who don't play three games a week and therefore will always hold an advantage

All 3 times we play Chelsea this season (assuming we beat Rostov) come sandwiched between Europa games. It's only natural teams like Chelsea have the advantage and are rightly favourites

Is this the new Man U fan mentality?

posted on 13/3/17

It's natural enough that we'd be happier to write off a loss in this competition, when CL qualification is our biggest priority, when winning would add more strain to our fixture list, and it wouldn't be one of those cases where winning put us within touching distance of the cup, as we'd still have two very tough ties in the final / semi-final.

I want to win but I can see the silver lining of going out.

Your first sentence
"I don't think many United fans expect much tonight nor really care if we go out"

I expect much and do care if we go out.

No it's very few united fans opinion

Any United fan that isn't bothered that we go out I think are slightly strange

I didn't fancy us with everyone but Zlatan available. Looks a very tall order now.

Never want to see us lose and of course it won't be nice if we do but i would be over it by 11pm tonight.

If we get knocked out by Rostov, I'll be really gutted.

Perhaps I worded that wrong. I'm sure every United fan will be saddened if we go out - myself included

But it's hardly going to derail our season nor will it be something we think about for too long. Will it?

So you expect we'll go through?

posted on 13/3/17

So when you say you 'expect much', do you mean you expect us to win away at Chelsea, who are fresher thanks to playing fewer games, and with Ibrahimovic, Martial, Rashford and Rooney all unavailable for the match?

What does 'expect much' mean in this context? If you're not talking about results but expecting the team to do its best, I don't think the OP's expectations are so low as being happy to throw in the towel.

Exactly. I want and expect us to put in a good showing

But it's hardly going to rock our foundations if we lose.

so why not sacrifice the PL and try to win FA Cup and EL. You saying we need CL football so if we win tonight we could face any of arsenal, spurs or city which the funny thing is we still have to play in PL as well

No I agree with the last part. I honestly now think there isn't a chance. I felt that even with rashford upfront and if we had martial, mata and Mkhi behind we could have a real go at them. Nearly all our pace has gone without rashford and martial. It's going to be one of them struggling nights now IMO where we create very little

Sacrificing the league for an fa cup is silly

We still have a good chance of making top 4. What do you suggest we do? We have 10 or so games to go

Do you think we'd just turn up with Nicky Butts side and do nothing?

posted on 13/3/17

People need to realise how important the Europa is to us now. Top 4 looks a very tough ask too. 6pts behind with two games in hand but some seriously horrendous fixtures.

If we do somehow manage to win the Europa, only chelsea will have had a better season than us in England. That's unless City win the CL which i don't see happening.

i like how you choose to pick words to suppirt your argument. i said fa cup and EL. You're saying if we win tonight we would have to play another 2 games against 2 strong teams. if you're not confident now how confident are you we will make top 4 considering we have chelsea home and arsenal, spurs and city away

I expect us to turn up and give it a real go.
Its the QF of the FA cup. We are the holders.
I expect us to be fighting to the last minute. Yes Chelsea are on fire and team of the season so far but it is a cup game.
We really do have some weird fans who don't expect much our our club.

Our attitude should be to win every game. That won't happen but we shouldnt expect anyyhing less

That doesn't contradict the OP. Where does the OP suggest the team shouldn't be expected to fight tonight?
