I'm not understanding the point of this formation at all. Why have we got 3 CBs against a team with virtually no strikers?
Take one of them out for Carrick. It will not influence the wing backs one bit as they have nothing to defend against

We are playing 3 at the back so our fullbacks are playing as wingers which hopefully draws the Rostov defenders out of their shell which gives Micky and Mata room to work their magic.
It's not quite working out but we've hit the post twice and their keeper has made a couple of good saves.

The problem all season has been we are slow with that final ball. In games where we play the early ball we have scored nearly every time
Zlatan has been on the shoulder of the defenders a lot tonight but we play the ball wide instead of letting him run onto it

Brought this up so many times. Especially when at the game you can see zlatan making those runs I'm behind.
Pogba found him vs West ham and Blackburn. We don't play that pass enough. You don't need to be rapid to get in behind like some seem to think, you just need to play the right pass athe he right time.
The one time we've tried to get in behind them Mhi found himself with a golden opportunity.

As I said, we do not need a back 3 for our wing backs to push up. Smalling and Bailly have more than enough pace to cover the 2 man counter attack Rostov occasionally throw at us

We do have answers. We win those games 9 out of ten but awful finishing costs us. It's miles away from anything wrong with how we approach these games

I get that we should have more width and players going forward with this formation, but we don't know how to play it. We're in possession but have 3 players sat in our own half, then they win it back and pass it between themselves, and even though there is a whole area to move into, Herrera or Pogba still come and get the ball, making FOUR men behind the ball now.
Might as well have Carrick as the middle defender if theres 3 of them, he can bring it out then or play a forward pass for once.

I get that we should have more width and players going forward with this formation, but we don't know how to play it.
