I'm confident that I wouldn't behave in that manner.

I'm sure all of us as football managers would step on some toes. You can't please everybody all of the time.
Bastian has been extremely well paid for a guy who is a broken down shell of what he used to be and who is at MLS level.
I think he knew the writing was on the wall when his ally LVG left.
What Don said.
Good luck to the guy and he was a great player on his day but too many fans seem to be rating him at United based on what they thought he could have been rather than what he actually did with us.

You can disagree with me all you like.
I don't think there was any need to treat him that way and evidently it seems Mourinho agreed, given that he reversed the decision.

He used him sparingly for games where the game was either already won or against championship sides.
Never got a single PL minute and was never gonna get one.
Robb Jimmy Hustle (U21234)
Brought him into train with the first team though, didn't he?
Showed enough in his cameo appearances this season that he could have contributed a bit more, especially with the current fixture congestion that Jose was crying about last week. In hindsight those appearances were probably just an exercise in damage limitation on Jose behalf after the way he treated basti.

i guess because we had a fixture pile up and he thought he may as well get some use out of Bastian before he jetted off to the US.

Truth is we don't really know what happened. I'd imagine Jose came in and knowing Basitan's injury record for the previous 4 seasons told him he was free to leave and wasn't part of his plans as Jose likes to keep smallish first team squads. He decided to stay and after a couple months Jose respected his wish and brought him into the first team knowing he was going nowhere and gave him minutes in relatively easy games. There was still very little if anything to suggest he was good enough still to be contributing in bigger games IMO.
Robb Jimmy Hustle (U21234)
Or maybe, just maybe, he realised he's made a mistake.
Great to see our fixture congestion has resolved and we can let experienced players leave 2 months before the end of the season

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37981053
It would seem that Jose just gave him some game time because we needed Bastian for the odd minutes here and there.
Morgan was a disappointment and left leaving some game time for a guy to play against the Wigans of the world

And I've stated that the only reason a player should train with the first squad is if he's playing games.
Otherwise he's just a guy there who is getting in the way of drills and tactical plans for upcoming games.

What a load of nonsense
Not really, that's how Jose has always done things. He has small first team squads of around 25 players. Players he doesn't feel will contribute to the first team games aren't brought in.
Whether that approach is right or wrong is another matter but that is how Jose operates.

Being that Bastian has gone with no real ceremony, under the radar to a footballing backwater and never really contributed much to United whatsoever, I'd say that Jose was right to get rid of him.
As for the training thing, it's bizarre that some people can't understand that first team training should be for... the first team!!
Roy's Keen (U11635)
It does seem that way. I'm going to leave him in his own little deluded bubble.
When he was injured should have spent his time getting fitter instead of shopping and globetrotting watching his wife play tennis. Senior players voiced this as an issue. No loss as he resembled Mrs Doubtfire when he arrived and his backside got no smaller watching tennis, total waste of money.
