Have to disagree, Banks was obviously great , but Shilton at his best was better.
Also Banks didn't have the completion in his, time.
How many more caps would Shilton have got if Clemence had not been around.
Schmeichel is good , but not as yet great, but should be captain.
Agree that technically Stilton was better than Banks, but Banks was utter class.
He may not have won a title with Leicester, but he won the World Cup with us.
Easily our best goalkeeper and as good as I now think Kasper is, he's not on either of Banks or Shilton's level.
Interestingly, the vote has him up there!!
What people don't realise is that Banks was small for a keeper even then.
He probably wouldn't have made it in the current game.

Banks was amazing, especially considering he only had one eye and didn't get to wear gloves. But how many league titles did he win with Leicester?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He lost his sight in one eye in 1972.
He won 0 league titles with Leicester.
He won 1 World Cup with England whilst at Leicester.
Banks for me his positioning has never been beaten. For anyone look at the LCFC V Derby game on you tube. He made things look so easy.
His suffered a lot with his health even ten years ago had new hips.
To be at the top first you have the best in your present time and Kasper is going to be third or forth in the PL medal or no medal.
Take the last match
1st goal only three in the wall and positioning invited the expert free kick taker to put it in the corner bingo.
2nd Goal Banks or Shilt's would of gobbled that up and he will know he should of done better.
A world class save to turn it round the post and the safe at the end was excellent.
But for my mate Stringy to compare it to Banks/Pele is ridicules Banks was going the wrong way and reacted
There were 4 in the wall and it didn't do its job failing to jump!
Ian Walker was the worst for positioning at free kicks.
The fans could see that he was often out of position.
Talking about short 'keepers, I think Celtic's Ronnie Simpson was about 5' 9. And he didn't wear Velcro gloves either.
Kevin Poole short quality keeper
Shilton for me, mainly because I saw more of him than Gordon as he left just after the World Cup (?) I think. I do remember my dad telling me Gordon (who was his favourite player) was forced out to ensure Peter Shilton stayed at the club. Do any of our "senior" posters know anything about this? I have read Peter Shilton's autobiography and that does not give any clues.
By the way, no mention of "Spider" Kalac? I wonder why?
Don't get me started on that my uncle Derek got transfered at the same time as Banks by Matt Gillles.
Shilton made it clear he was don't going to wait for his chance. Banks was sold but i don't blame the club what would you do with a 17 kid with that quality but not the brightest tool in the box. He left after Worthington had a tryst with his wife. Shilt's did the same at Soton and got caught.
Thanks Nev, ha ha my Dad didn't tell me that bit, but then I was only a nipper. Talking about Derek Dougan, a lot of my uncles supported Distillery and used to rave about the Doug so when he came to Leicester I recall they were really excited. Enjoyed his autobiography too called "The sash I never wore" as I recall.
He went into business with my Dad and the Boxer Jack Gardner (my Godfather) He would come and watch me play football that was embarrassing as i wanted to be like him. But Gordon help turn me into a goal keeper a bang average short arrised one though.
My most embarrassing moment was to be the mascot at wolves against Leicester for my birthday in a wolves kit!!!!
can't remember the score just the shame

But became a legend when the new stadium was names after him
The players of Bank's era weren't perfect but most of them were real men who knew how to behave or at least be discrete.
NOT something that cn be said about Shilton though. Hardly discrete getting caught $hagging a married woman in his car.
Getting back to the Poll, I find it totally pointless having a poll when probably the majority of people polled aren't old enough to see either Banks or Shilton play. That's why people today always think today's players are superior to their predecessors.

You have to remember though, the story goes that Dougan stayed out when City were on the south coast, apparently with a friend in Portsmouth and the trainer at the time (I can't recall his name) dealt with it accordingly. Whether Matt was put in a difficult position can't be substantiated.
...unless you know better, of course Nev.
As for their numptyish poll...well....
I kind of inferred to that point too Kangeroo on the previous thread on Mahrez.
Like Mahrez, I think kasper has the potential to be world class. What I would say is that reviewing goalkeeping legends almost has to be done without any comparatives to outfield players, but you'd argue if Mahrez has the potential because of his performances, so does Schmeichel.
As you mention, it's also hard to review previous players outside of our viewing eras or life times, not only because subjective opinions and highlights are going to be limiting but also because football has changed so much in terms of skill level, balls and microanalysis.
In the 25 years that I have watched Leicester, I'd say the top three keepers I've seen have been:
Keller
Flowers
Schmeichel
I'd say Schmeichel has been better than Keller (although I think some people forget some of the fantastic saves he made for us) and probably surpasses Flowers because of injury whilst at Leicester (although he was brilliant when playing I think a more accomplished goalkeeper than Schmeichel is currently although not by much).
So over several decades I think there is a good argument he has been our best keeper and this, for me, suggests he is going to be one of the best we've had based on numbers and time lines and evidence from different sources.
World class? If you view this as a current reflection - at the moment, as a comparative, I'd suggest so. If you review it has a reflection against all 'world class legends' between the sticks - not yet.
They can't even get Mark Wallington's fact correct. He came to Leicester in 1972 and not '71. I was fortunate enough to see him on his debut at Filb. in the March.
World class should be simply are they good enough to get into the best international teams in the world or the likes of the best team the likes of Mardrid Man utd Barca etc.
As for the Doug thing never heard that and if you met his stunning German wife with attitude it would be a brave man that played away whilst married to her!
They lived in Anstey next to Willie Thorne that's another story
Well if that's how you class world class then Mahrez isn't good enough to play for Barca or Real right now. Maybe in the future he will but not now.

If we're talking about the same story (Dougan) then it has nothing to do with him 'playing away'. It was a make friend.
