We sell Coutinho and we might as well wave the white flag as a supposed top team. Can't keep selling your best players and expected to compete.
I agree with Kash.
Continually selling our best players will get us nowhere. In fact let me rephrase that, selling our best players gets us nowhere.
The only people calling for us to sell couts are twitter muppets who started watching football in 2003 and want us to go and buy lewandowski, James rodriguez, and all the players who are good on fifa.
The smell people who think not breaking the world transfer record every three days during the window is a lack of ambition.
Essentially ARE and Shortsight.
We need to be less reliant on coutinho, not him to be more world class to carry us.
Same people* bloody autocorrect.
We do need to keep him but its as much to do with us as it is him. Win trophies, compete in CL and players wont leave, or if they do then just as big stars will arrive.
Dortmund and Atletico are two sides that can now entice top top players; neither are their respective countries glamour clubs but consistent CL challenging....not just qualifying....and domestic success has made them attractive.

As far as Coutinho's numbers are concerned since his injury...
Dude was hugely impressive in front of opponent's goal prior to his injury setback – he had a rate of 0.38 goals per game in the PL, significantly higher than his post-injury ratio of 0.125 goals per game.
His assists have dried up also since his return. He set up 1.05 goals per game earlier in the season but after recovering from injury has laid on just 0.21 assists per game.
As for to his chances created, his output has also dipped since his spell out of the side. He has laid on 45 chances in total but was carving out opportunities at a rate of 2.54 per game before his injury, with his return now amounting to 1.5 chances per game.
Abviously his injury pulled him further behind his standards. It would make a lot a sense to keep him for another season, I would say he will get back on track, but if he did not, then it would be safe to sell and get a better substitute.

He's fecking brilliant and a joy to watch on play the game, would be very sad to see him go
I think these days it ultimately comes down to whether the player wants to stay or go. Just signed a new contract simply means he will be more expensive, not necessarily an indicaton he wants to stay long-term.
If he's good enough for Barca then he's good enough for us.
I've said this a few time over the last few years, Coutinho will never be the 'go to' player. He won't be a player that thrives on pressure, he won't be a talisman. Whenever we've looked to him to lead the attack then he's more often than not disappointed. When the team is playing well however, he's one hell of a cherry on top. Earlier in the season with Mane, Firmino and Lallana all playing well, he was an absolute joy.
I'd do what we can to keep him but not read too much into it if we lose him. Bottom line is no club is safe from the pull of Barca and RM. They're the glamour clubs and players want to be there.
Hopefully we'll get at least one more year from Coutinho but we'll lose him eventually imo.
Really this boils down to two things
1. Is coutinho really in demand? I think its unlikely. There is one side of the spanish press pushing it and then we have guillem I know everything ballague saying barca aint interested
2. Is coutinho actually all that? For 4 months there he looked like he really took a huge step forward and all was well. Right now he looks worse than last year and struggling to make any impact.
I see an interesting point there from Can solo about him and really that might be right. I'm not sure he is the "go to" player. the lad himself needs to do more IMO and take more on... but it is not like we've not seen other LFC players not really get back to peak form after injury mid season is it?
I like watching the little Brazilian lad. But his highlight reel isn't long enough.
Lallana is giving more to that Liverpool team than he does in quality and graft. Cash in and improve.
I wouldn't want to see him go. We've seen he's got the ability to be a great player for us. His form before his injury showed what he is capable of doing. I'm not sure whether it's coming back from injury or a post signing a contract slump that's contributed to his form being off since he came back.
Thing is if Barca or RM come knocking it's usually hard to compete. Yeah it might send out a negative message if he's sold. But it depends how the club handles it. If they fight tooth and nail to keep him but his heads turned then there isn't much we can do. It'd be better to get rid for a hefty fee.
Sell him and get Rakitic. Then buy a decent wide forward.

RM have been chasing DDG for a few years now and that's despite DDG being very keen on the move.
RM are also keen on Hazard but Chelsea are not even willing to talk about it to them.
If we want to compete with United and Chelsea then we need to follow there lead and tell our long contracted player that he must stay put.
The Rakitic rumours are very doubtful and Barca are probably just dangling a carrot so they can negotiate with no intention to sell him.
Hypothetically though would Rakitic and £60m interest youse? It would soften the blow like

AND £60M you say?
Would be more like £15m-£18m IMO.
I would ask him does he want to leave YES or NO if he say's YES he's only sold at our price and terms, if NO great for our club for the future.
Can't remember were I read it like but that's what it said

Fair enough but the number seems very, very high their. I remember the Pogba fee was supposedly going to be £120m to £130m. Turned out to be far, far less. Coutinho's good but personally I'd bite your hand off for Rakitic and if I was a Liverpool fan might even take a straight swap. Big fan of the Croat.
£65m it was haha.
Barcelona will offer Liverpool as much as £65m and Croatian midfielder Ivan Rakitic to convince us to sell Coutinho.
Thoughts??

DDG is an unusual example in fairness, don't know what went on there but it seemed that Utd had accepted a bid and then issues with a fax scuppered the deal with both blaming each other for it not going through. So it's not like they took a stand not to sell, they agreed but it didn't happen.
Hazard, we'll see. If RM want him and Hazard wants to go then I'd bet on it happening. We all saw what a disinterested Hazard looks like, it was only last season. Why keep that player? If he's happy to stay then I'm guessing he will, if not...
That's the point I guess. These days players get what they want 95% of the time and unfortunately RM and Barca are the biggest attractions around. So 95% of the time they get their man.
