That figure comes from a survey carried out by market research company Kantar in 2011, polling 54,000 adults in 39 countries.
But the figures have since been questioned, as Kantar phrased the survey to find out “followers” rather than fans – that is, people with an interest in the club, but who may also be interested in other clubs.
The figures, which also do not tally with TV viewing figures in those countries, were used by United to pitch the club to potential investors.

You should have seen the stick I got for asking who's going the cup final😂
They can take the Mick out of us all they want but 99% of them super dooper ultra man united followers have never even been near old Trafford.
Probably only Stockports biggest 🔔 end the worm and of course stretty the man born in the megastore on fergies birthday, are match attending supporters.
