Things are going crazy at the club now, it's out of control. The decision making is going to new lows and I think it's going to get a lot worse before it ever gets better.

Why is it so important (to a fan) how much a player is paid?

The money top player’s earn is eye watering yes, but in the grand scheme of things, how much difference does it make if a player earns 100k, 200k, or 300k a week?

There really must be a complete and ruthless overhaul of this club starting with getting rid of Arsene Wenger.
The whole ethos of the footballing side of the club must be looked at, as right now we are rudderless mess.
Says it all when Sanchez says he loves London but only wants to play for a club with winning mentality.

Contracts are as much tied to the (top) player’s commercial/marketability value as their ability on the pitch. While the two go hand in hand, (ie to be a marketable asset have to be a top player) your answer doesn’t address my question.

What difference does it make to you, how much a (top) player earns, given the exorbitant amounts they are paid?

In regard to Ozil, do you believe he could earn more or less away from AFC? Especially given the influx of Chinese conglomerates into the game.

Personally I'd rather we didn't massively overpay players and instead lowered ticket prices.

Some players "deserve" (or rather are worth paying) monster contracts in line with the ridiculous market rate... some (Ozil included) don't. In fact that would be way above market rate as he's not been performing to the standard expected.

280k? Jeez...

English football is insane..

What should we do? sell him?. Wenger can't win. He is doing what it takes to keep a world class p[layer at the club. I would also give Sanchez £500k a week to stay. We need to build the team not destroy

Most contracts are also heavily incentivized with regard to performance. So if a player is not meeting particular target(s) they won’t get as much money.

I agree, Ozil (assuming report is accurate) has not performed sufficiently, nor consistently to “deserve” a massive increase in terms.

That said, he’s about to enter the final year of his contract, and has a strong negotiating position. Do AFC risk losing one of their best players for less than market value, (or at worst on a free) or protect his value by giving him a new contract.

Commercially (which is probably how the money men at AFC are thinking) it makes more sense to renew his contract.

Whether he is better than Coutinho is irrelevant, I don't rate him as highly as some of our supporters.

He is still not world class. Shows up against the cannon fodder with a few flicks and assists but when the chips are down and the opponents are of a higher quality, he runs away.

I understand where you're coming from

If we get a good offer this summer then I'd be happy to sell though. If a player continues to regress on a monster 280k wage then he'd be impossible to shift, technically that's worse than losing him on a free.

Ozil world class? What drugs are you on mate!

Yes, talented but lacks the mettle and heart to qualify as world class.
And for him to link his future at the club to Wenger's is just taking the biscuit. Sell him!

posted on 30/3/17

Ozil has world class ability. He's demonstrated that before. It's his application and mental attributes he lacks. So that holds him back from being in the top bracket. You get the impression he's mollycoddled by Wenger and the club, and it seems to be getting worse. That should change. If he can't handle a tougher approach, then he should probably leave and not play at a club that would demand the best. Which is why he probably wants to stay!

I hope they're going through the same effort to keep Sanchez. He's one of only players who's put in a fight this season. But probably because he's not a robot and always demands more success, he'll be out the door

Well yer he is hes won the biggest trophy there is to win it's just he doesn't turn up all the time like he should

posted on 30/3/17

I think most fans' definition of World Class does not include "Plays a really good game once every 10-12 matches and disappears for the rest"

posted on 30/3/17

I mean if Wenger stays why wouldn't want to keep a player that cares as little about winning as he does himself? Winning the World Cup makes you world class? Can someone please let Mertesacker and Mustafi know so they can act accordingly.

I honestly think I could beat Mesut Ozil in a midfield battle. His turds have more football ability than I do, but he's such a wimp. Couldn't win a shoulder challenge with McLovin.
