If my professional reputation, which I'd spent years building, was unjustly questioned on national telly and in the printed press, I'd take whomever did it to the cleaners. Especially if i did no wrong and was responding to a request to go on the pitch by the ref.

Of course it could. A Doctors professional reputation is sacrosanct. The fact that the ability to do their jobs was questioned publicly, in the press by Mourinho, meant their is the potential for career ending damage to their reputations. Anyone with half a brain can understand that.
