Superb win for Bottas

Ferrari not as quick as I thought they would be.

Shocking day for Hamilton

Spain will be more of the same. No overtaking too

At about the halfway point, I thought that I hadn't seen an overtake. No wonder I thought the race was extremely boring, aside from the close finish. Nice to see Bottas get a win though.

Make the tyres more durable, they said. Make the cars even more aero dependent. Nothing could possibly go wrong!

This season will be won at the start and in the pits <sad>.

Gear boxes, clutches....
Fangio would have been a WDC today, Senna would have been a WDC today and Prost would have been a WDC today.
Best drivers win, regardless of machines...FACT.

The problem lies in the amount of downforce that these cars produce and in turn depend on. Cars cannot follow each other thro the corners so need to back off to preserve the car mainly brake temps). The other problem is although the tyres are wider and more durable they are still far to sensitive and prone to crcuial temp fluctuations. There is more to one line thro corners despite what someone said on here the problem lies in taking a car round the outside or pushing the car thro consecutive corners puts too much strain on the temps, they go thro the roof and start sliding all over the shot.

So in essence cars cannot follow closely or the car breaks, cars cannot push thro the corners as the tyre temps go thro the roof. IMO if they strip the downforce of the cars and have less sensitive tyres, tyre degradation was never the problem its not being able to push the tyres for more than 2 sectors that ruins the sport.

I don't know if fatty Fangio would fit in an F1 today

The question is, would Hamilton, Vettel, et al win in an F1 car of yesteryear?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hamilton and Alonso yes, Vettel and the rest. Not so sure
