Exactly right. You have to do something drastic to be taken seriously which makes it even worse.
My brother never got the help he needed and ultimately that was the end.
He was a huge Spurs fan too.
Good luck Azza, much love to you, I hope you get through this and back on the pitch. What a player for us he was

Sorry to hear that Smeg <dove>
I feel for Aaron because I've been there BUT he can recover: I wasn't to the Westminster Pastoral foundation for group therapy, the peaceful atmosphere related to where meditation takes place on a grand scale is very soothing. he WILL be alright.

Lost my brother to depression a couple of years ago. He never came back. The final straw was when the social services didn't keep an appointment to see him. The lack of help out there is frightening. They blamed it on Tory cuts.

Wow so sad. Sorry to hear about your loss
Thanks all. Wish he could've seen this Spurs side!
Weare, currently rocking the ripe old 38th year!
Great idea to sing Lennon name on Friday
all the best azza I wish you a speedy recovery.

Really sad news. A total bolt from the blue as well.
Had just been thinking the other day that we hadn't seen him in an Everton shirt for a while and he had rather gone off the radar.
An outstanding player who could be virtually unplayable on his day, he was a key part of some of our best teams of recent years - the Jol sides in the mid-Noughties and Redknapp's team, too. Bale and Lennon on either wing were a total joy to watch.
Hope he gets all the help he needs. Mental health issues can affect anyone, at any time, and he needs all the support he can get. Top player, top pro, top bloke. Let's hope he's put on the road to recovery.
So many great moments in a Spurs shirt down the years. That breakthrough season, at the tender age of 18, when he was leaving full-backs on their backsides, whipping in crosses and scoring goals. How he wasn't taken to the WC that year is a travesty. He regularly had Spurs fans up out of their seats that season.
The equalising goal in the 4-4 is probably the standout moment, but the winner against Chelsea in 2006 - the first time we'd beaten them in forever - was equally special. Not sure I've ever seen the Lane rocking quite as much as that.
He scored a great goal in the 5-1 thrashing of Arsenal in 2008, and played a key role in the final too. In more recent years his winners against Arsenal and Liverpool stand out as memorable moments.
Speed, guile, defensive discipline, stamina, trickery, dribbling ability, and his crossing ain't half bad either.

Just seen the news about Aaron Lennon.
Best wishes to him, and you Smeg, and anyone else that's been affected by this terrible illness.
Good luck to him.
'one in all in'
And as an aside has anyone seen the mail's headline on this today that states his wages?! As surely he is too rich to be sad!!??
Lost my father in law to a mental health illness a few years ago, its a disease that can be fought but only if we all start talking about it more. Its scary how common it is especially in men!

He was taken to the World Cup. He replaced Beckham vs Portugal which left Beckham blubbing on the bench.

Ah yes, I remember now. I thought he'd been left out for Walcott. Someone was left out for Walcott. Was it Defoe? A Walcott who then didn't play one single minute. One of Sven's less glorious moments.
Annoys me when people say stuff like 'X is another Lennon, SWP, etc...'
Lennon was a frightening player in his younger days and I think underrated on the whole
Get well soon Aaron.
I was diagnosed with depression a few years back, and have been down at times since my teens, so can relate to an extent, with mental illness.
Nowadays, Aaron can get help, meds, counselling and we can support him,as the stigma has lessened.
You can get through this.
He was at one point my favourite Spurs player.
Hope for a swift recovery.

Counselling, Mindfulness, cycling and running outdoors helped me, plus talking to some colleagues and friends.
I am sure Aaron will find out other players, fans and friends have suffered depression, stress or anxiety.
For me, depression is a sign we are just human,,with feelings, fears and dark thoughts, as well as the rest of life.
