It wouldn't destroy boxing's credibility at all. Mayweather's cred would undoubtedly suffer but then again he's 40 years old now and Conor is at his absolute peak.

Conor comes from a boxing background, he started off in boxing before delving in mixed martial arts. So all that it would mean is that a great mixed martial artist with a significant boxing background was able to land on a 40+ year old former Champ. That's it.

And I don't think it would be a miracle at all for Conor to land a big signature left on Mayweather. Not saying it would be easy because it wouldn't but in boxing one big punch can change everything. Mayweather can and does get hit, his defence is great but it's not impregnable.

not just any 40year old ex champ though is it, toney was a 40+ year old ex champ trying out mma, someone who was far removed from his prime, Floyd up until a 18months ago was still on top of the boxing world

18 months ago he beat Berto. Not sure that's top of the boxing world. Speaking of 18 months that's as long as he hasn't fought and if this fight gets made it will be more like 2 years and counting.

I meant in terms of being ranked p4p, he was still number one despite of who he was fighting is what I meant

He hasn't fought in a significant fight in two years, which will probably be more like two and a half to three years by the time this fight actually happens. That's a long time, especially when you're already 40 and counting.

UFC fighters still wear 4-6 ounce gloves. It's not bare knuckle.

they do but its a very different thing to wearing 12-14 ounce boxing gloves and a massive layer a wrapping underneath that, in the ufc, glancing blow can sometimes put someone to sleep

Yup I'm not denying there's a significant difference. Just acknowledging that UFC fighters do wear gloves, albeit only 4-6 ounce ones.

Either way Mayweather will probably do what he often does and make Connor wear pillows if they fight.

A complete farce, in a boxing bout Floyd would smash him (heck i'd put most 10 fight+ pros to beat Conor in a BOXING match, other way round if it was MMA

Canelo and Golovkin took the september date so Floyd will have to pick a different one.

mayweather hasn't fought any other month bar sept and may for the last 10 years so its a safe bet if it does go ahead it will be now be may 2018

Bad news for Mayweather as he'll be 41 by then and three years since he fought in a significant fight.

It will be a sanctioned boxing fight so if FMJ wins he goes to 50-0 and surpasses Rocky Marciano's record of 49-0.

Not sure Mayweather gives much of a toss about the 50-0. If he really did he could have fought another Berto level fighter and won easily. He's in this now for his hundred million payday and doubt he cares much about anything else at this stage.

In the words of Dana White when talking about Mayweather he said "when you're wearing a two hundred thousand dollar watch that's the problem. Oh and taxes are coming up real soon as well buddy"

And Mayweather will never get to 50-0. The boxing Gods won't allow it

a few have got to 50-0 but just carried on until they were beat

I think something about the may one being cinco de mayo, started with the de la hoya fight, the sept date I have no clue

Unless they want to wait another year at very least then they'll have to fight another date. Dana White now putting some deadlines on talks so they'll have to hurry up otherwise it won't happen at all.
