Wrong manager, wrong club = Pearson
Right manager (although I am a bit worried about Karanka esque footy) wrong time unless some sensible upstairs maneuvering happens = Rowett
I remember moaning lots, the sad thing is we were left with a team that's was half Steve and half Pearson, it was very hard to balance it into anything above an average unit.
I think Wassell n Rowett are similar in football thinking and that might mean a few more opportunities for the academy. Rowett I think will bring in common sense but from a strategic sense I'm worried that Mel believes too much in the manager. If Gary is successful and leaves for a bigger club or doesn't take us to where Mel wants us to be we're left playing managerial roulette again.
Build a style of play and then employ managers and players to add to it. Steve M to DW. DW to Pearson. Pearson back to SM were not seamless appointments.
Rowett I think can balance it albeit going more functional than fancy I reckon, to what level of potency I'm not sure. I hope Mel realizes the limits of the current team we have though and starts judging a manager and player on the team we are as opposed to the team he thinks it should be.
Oops forgot about PC.
SM to PC sensible progression (in theory) maybe could have been managed a bit better and given more suitable players.
PC to DW not the best progression.
I seem to remember that most people were pleased with the appointment of Pearson at the time, though that's probably because Tim Sherwood had been odds on favourite for the 2 proceeding weeks!
Marco
I was one of the ones who was pleased. I thought we lacked the grit that he could have given us. Unfortunately we actually took a massive step backwards, whether that was the players being Mardy or his lack of ability to manage egos will never be known
Tommo, you can't imagine a bigger ego than NP! He has no problems sorting out big egos. Wasn't it he who 'sorted out' Chris Martin? Was Chris Martin ultimately good or bad for the Derby dressing room?
I am much more optimistic than this time last year. We have a hardworking, honest manager in place, with old-fahioned values, who is a pragmatist and not slavishly tied to a single formation. We seem to be in the process of getting rid of some dead wood (and maybe some of the crown jewels) and we also have Nuge, who could be an inspired buy. Lots left to sort out, of course, but I'm more confident in GR to do it than I was with Owd Throttler.
Weirdly, i think he was the Right manager but wrong players and wrong chairman!
Mel should have stuck by him and cleared out the dross.
Now Rowett is charged with the task and we've wasted a year.
I'd have got Rowett in last year myself though .... saved us all a lit of heartache
Mel interview GR a week before Pearson and because GR wanted to replace Keogh and NP wanted to keep Keogh NP got the job

Fact or supposition Griff?
Source... ? 666?
I've read the whole post Anglian and was surprised that a clever pundit like 666 wanted the hapless Moyes.
2 Wellies was spot on with his remark "RIP Derby"
Some of weren't that struck on NP and many of us wanted a manager who has fallen on hard times and now works near a river.
I am sure we will do a lot better this coming season, as long as Mel does not interfere.
"If it IS Pearson there might be potential for fruitcakery at some point".
Must say, Vidal, you were pretty spot-on with your predictions
Quite impressed by Arsenal playing it out of the back first half today.
I liked the look of their big German centre back too.
Playing for a move away I hear
Have to say very impressed with Ramsey too. Sanchez standard.
I had a Facebook memory about this very thing today. It was a link to the news story, with a short but to the point "excited" comment from myself. Oh if I only knew how wrong he would get it.

This playoff final isn't helping. Borefest.
Huddersfield in the Prem..................
Well done Udders, it just goes to show what a good manager can do. They deserved to win today, they outplayed Reading who sat back too much.
I've changed my mind about Mooy, he ain't bad. . But I'd definitely put Schindler on my (wanted) list.

I wonder how many Championship clubs will try the counter pressing game next yearor will people be copying the 3 at the back Conte thang?
I reckon the owd catenaccio 9-1 with an English hoofball twist will throw everyone off, Chris Martin Ballon d'Or.
