farza have a weak bench
madrid had a v strong bench, which zidane made full use of after xmas...ensuring players like CR7 remained fresh and in tip top form later on in the season
i will also dispute your claim that Suarez is far superior to benzema..
benzema link up play is exceptional for a centre forward
have you watched much of suarez the past season ?? for alot of it he was v poor
If he's that great. He should lead Port Vale to the championship atleast. Nah didn't think he would be able to.
Top 10 managers, not top 5 yet for me though
Hard to tell where Zidane ranks among the best coaches in the world. He's done an excellent job, though.
Madrid right now are on a different level to every other club including Barca and Bayern and Zidane deserves a lot of respect for that, they were a laughing stock under Rafa.
"If he's that great. He should lead Port Vale to the championship atleast. Nah didn't think he would be able to"
My article was fairly balanced. I spoke about ll Zidane's achievements and records that he has set in his first year and a half in management. However I clearly stated that unlike the likes of Paisley, Clough and Ferguson he has yet built up a squad from the bottom to the top and that like Guardiola he needs to prove himself in a more competitive league before we can start to consider his managerial career as legendary as his paying career.
I hate them but will give credit where it's due, he's done well to keep everyone involved and (reasonably) happy. Don't know if it's he alone or him in conjunction with Ronaldo starting to check his ego, but they've managed to devise a scheme where Ronaldo gets rested which impacted on his goal tally. He even got away with playing Casemiro instead of Isco or Rodriguez - something Benitez started but got absolutely hammered for, who then promptly benched him vs Barca at the Bernabeu and watched a Messi-less Barca dismantle them which was the beginning of the end...
Saying that, unfortunately they've got a better squad than Barca which is why they won the league. As for the CL, they've actually faced quality opponents this season as opposed to last season (Roma, Wolfsburg, Man City en route to last years final). Absolutely shambolic referring in their favour vs Bayern did help though without a doubt.
He obviously has something good about him to be able to get Madrid to win La Liga for the first time in a while, as well as the back to back CL, the long winning run, and the way he has his team dig in to win so many matches.
At the moment I wouldn't put him in the same bracket as any of the top managers around i.e. Jose, Guardiola, Klopp, Simeone, Ancelotti, Allegri, Conte etc. Give him another 2 years and see how he does first.
Didnt we do this discussion already a few days back?
When he first joined Benitez had left the club in a dreadful position. Madrid were 3rd in the league
-----------
Hahahaha, Zidane had indeed worked miracles
Currently? He's absolutely one of the best in the world. In the two years he's been there he's won two champions leagues and won his domestic league. That's bonkers. Yeah he's got good players but that shouldn't detract from his achievements so far.
Who is ahead of him currently? Conte, yes. Pep, probably, tho he has had a bad year. So I'd put him in the top three.
But as you say, great managers manage success over a long period and there's no way we'll know that for a decade at least.
No way is the barca squad better. On current standard they don't have a single midfielder on a par with either Kroos or Modric, while their defence is awful. Madrid actually have an extremely underrated defence. Any ignore their back four would walk into pretty much any PL team.
Madrid are miles ahead of Barca.
Barca conceded less goals than Madrid in the league.
Madrid have a better squad, though. There's a huge gulf in class between Barca and Madrid's benches.
He's done a great job but they were fortunate not to get knocked out the CL in the QF by Bayern. Some terrible refereeing decisions saw Madrid through that tie.
Hard to argue with what he has done, but hard to gauge his true position because of his position at the circus of Madrid.
What I will say is you have to be a fantastic man-manager at Madrid to command the respect of the players, and charismatic enough to win over the fans. Everyone respects Zidane, one of the modern greats. Obviously that will not get you by in itself though.
He is a great manager at the minute, jury is out on his ability as a coach though
To be fair, the club has needed a Galactico to manage it for some time. It has had a feel of the tail wagging the dog.

Wow a lot of bitter Madrid haters on this forum. For the record I voted 3. But how anyone can vote 2 or 1 is just ridiculous.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Especially those who voted 1. For me Zidane is up there with Messi, Ronaldo, Maradona, Pele and Cruyff . What he could with a ball and the way he could control matches simply mesmerized me and for someone to be that bitter that they don't even consider him to have had a world class playing career astounds me especially when what modern day fans consider to be world class.

Voting 1 is indeed ridiculous but as a manager he's hardly been up against it or had his hands tied, in fact he's landed one of football management's dream jobs

Yeah each to their own but to believe that Zidane was not a world class player is simply ridiclous
Yes, he has shown himself a better manager than Ferguson in just two seasons; I'll have an article on both he and Pep are better managers than the Scotsman
