Sigurdsson to Everton then?

In short, no. I'm quite happy for us not to be splashing out stupid money, great player that he is. We will find someone decent enough at half the price :D

It seems we offered £40m and got turned down. So, following that, Everton offered £40m. The mind boggles.

The player himself seems pretty set on going to Everton though, which is a bit strange considering they now have a multitude of number 10s. But that's his choice I suppose. The only question realistically remaining is how much more Swansea are going to be able to wring out of Everton for his services. I suspect another £5m or round abouts will do it, as Swansea themselves are now starting to worry about actually spending that money rather than holding out until transfer deadline day.

Part of me wants us to offer £50m just so Everton have to as well. But I can't believe we will.

Thanks to new cash rich owners, and Man U being gullible enough to pay them 75 million for Lukaku,
Everton look the front runners in this window. Dont think
its anything to do with Walshy being ex Leicester. Hes just a recruitment officer with a lot of cvash to back him up ( but so is our recruitment man)

We offered 40 million for Gylfi but you can't blame
Swansea for holding out for 50 million, the same as we are doing for Mahrez. And it looks like they are going to
get it.

We tried for Gylfi but now we move on. We obvyously had the money to pay 40 million , even with a potential
25 million for Iheanacho, so our pursuit for new players
moves on.

Who does everyone think we should go for now

Agreed. Gylfi would have been a great signing, but if he doesn't want to come it's better we know now whilst there's still time to look elsewhere.

Iheanacho for 25 million would be an exciting prospect. My only concern would be the terms of a buy back clause if there was to be one.
As for who else, I'd like to see another young centre half like Ben Gibson come in and also some right back cover in case of injury or suspension to Simpson. Unfortunately I don't think Amartey is the answer here.

The national space centre, excellent arable farmland and Coalville precinct cannot be found in Merseyside.

Anyway, I'm not too disappointed about Walsh's targets. The reality it, Everton have big aspirations and budgets so are tending to go for names. The signings I would be gutted about are the £5-£15m ones that could be an absolute gem that nobody else knows about.

They only really seem to have signed that Charlton kid for that.

So whilst it's not ideal, our recruitment and targets are looking very sensible this summer, so I'm not too worried about Walsh stealing all our targets.

I wouldn't be naïve enough to suggest that Leicester are as big a club as Everton, but it's worthwhile pointing out that LCFC have won 2 league cups and a league title since Everton won their last major trophy. So the decision might not be so cut and dried as it once was. 20 years ago you wouldn't have picked Manchester City over United - now you would be stupid not to.

Although, as Mersey said, the real clincher for me is the opportunity to live in the vicinity of Coaville precinct. Rarely can you find as many bargain buy and charity shops in such close proximity.

Incidentally is there a reason why this thread is on the AFC Telford board? Are they in for GS as well?

...and, of course, there's the 'drive in' cash point in Ashby-d-l-z.

Quick

Get in the phone to Shakey.
Get back to Gylfi before he goes to Everton and offer
him a house in my area so he can sample ther delights of downtown Coalville.

We could offer him Gary Mcallisters old house. Then
he could be a redular at our pub, like Gary Mac was.

He could even get a lift to away games on Benbos bus

AFC Telford? Hee Hee! I guess my big sausage fingers must have clicked on them too by accident. Good luck to them too next season.

There's many things in this life I can't afford, a big flashy super car, a swanky apartment, one of those high class ladies that offer their services to name but a few, I just get on with life and what I can afford - It looks like Top is doing the same

we cant compete with Everton----they will move him straight into one of Robbie Fowlers many terraced houses to make him feel at home. We cant offer him an outside toilet and a damp cellar so lets give up

Still looking to hijack this according to some papers, might depend on if he really wants the Everton move or fancies more money:

Do we think this would be dependant upon Riyad moving elsewhere?

We don't seem to be generating much interest in our players and, therefore, generating any revenue from elsewhere.

Apart from 150 million approx from Sky etc.

Nothing wrong with making them play for their places and having to give everything week in week out, you can do that with a strong squad.

It would probably be too late by then, Joby. Although I still suspect that the latest reports linking us with a gazumping move Sigurdsson are actually fake news and more to do with his agent trying to nudge Everton into action.

I'm not suggesting that we couldn't afford him if we really wanted to.

With Iborra, Maguire and (the as yet confirmed) Iheanacho signings we'll have spent the best part of £55m. If we did spend anything like £50m on GS that would be over £100m. Add in the massive wage bill the people usually conveniently forget and that's a serious outlay - even before you factor other areas of the team that we might want to strengthen. We're rumoured to still be interested in another CB.

Losing Mahrez might help balance the books a little. As would losing a few of the peripheral squad members like Mendy, Musa, Ulloa (why a new contract?) and James/King who might still have some value to other clubs.
