Excuses : Its only preseason and he is yet to play with first team yet which does matter as the current defence was like sand trying to hold water. Hence the whole team suffered.
Despite that I am not that impressed with him. He does not look like the striker we needed. We needed a striker who can do the job upfront while connecting the team.
Lacazette seems to be different type of striker who struggles to do that and gets isolated when played in CF position. He is like better version of Theo Wallcot, Defoe in CF. There has been many top players raving about is finishing which we didn’t get to see. Also he seems to want to work hard which is always a bonus.
Ultimately, if Sanchez stays Lacazette will benefit tremendously as it will give him space and deadly partner up top whom defenders will be busy trying to contain.
If Sanchez leaves I can see Lacazette struggling and even being considered a flop. As Lacazette in himself does not seem to be a special player.
Wenger will play him out of position. I can imagine him starting Giroud with Lacazette playing out wide in Sanchez position
Watched the Arsenal-Chelsea game yesterday and was underwhelmed by him, but to be fair, the whole Arsenal team were dire yesterday.

Watched the Arsenal-Chelsea game yesterday and was underwhelmed by him, but to be fair, the whole Arsenal team were dire yesterday.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We played a team with a few youth and some players overcoming a stomach bug that affected the squad during the week. Chelsea played a fairly strong team and clearly disnt want to lose to us again after recent loses. Our losing yesterday doesnt mean a lot.
Pre-season is all about working on formations and fitness. Nothing else.
Frankly we are going to have a huge problems if we continue to play with 3 at the back. For that formation to truly work you need the middle centre back to step into the midfield or drop back deeper into a sweeper position and a big striker with plenty of movement. Chelsea's key players last season were Costa and Luiz.
We have a problem because our CBs are not that comfortable on the ball. 3 at the back would been perfect with someone like Vermealen. We don't have that player now and we bought Lacazette who has been likened to Wright. We did not buy Lukaku.
So we need to go back to when Wenger was the most successful. Two sitting midfield players like Petit/Vieira or Gilberto/Vieira. Xhaka can certainly do what Gilberto used to do but we have never replaced Vieira. We need to buy that player as quickly as possible. And Santi showed by carrying the ball under pressure that opens our game up. Thats why we missed him so much. Santi of course couldn't defend which is why we used to play 3 in CM to do the role that Vieira used to.
After you shore up the midfield, you can use Ozil in Dennis Bergkamp role and he doesn't become the sort of luxury he has been for the last 3 seasons. You can even replace Alexis with Mahrez pretty easily as well.

I too saw the game. Arsenal did not play a youth team, just a couple of young players. After Ospina's quite blatant assault on Pedro, Chelsea also had a young player who had never played for the first team and he made Arsenal's midfield and defence look pedestrian. In the second half, Chelsea's true youth team continued to make Arsenal look awful. Arsenal reverting to type again!
I didn't watch the game yesterday, or any of our other pre season matches for that matter.
I have more important things to do, like wash the dishes or walk the dog. Pre season means absolutely nothing.
As for Lacazette, I'll judge him when I see him play a competitive match
Can't really judge him but feel we need a striker with height and power up front along with pace. Lukaku/Morata/Aubamayang would have been ideal.
Lacazette just adds to the rest of the midgets we have in the team.
Nothing wrong with a midget striker as long as you play the ball on the ground.

We started AMN and Bramall and brought more youth on later. Per was one of the worst sufferers from the bug apparently. So 2 of our 3 CB's well below our first choice and a defensively weak CM in Xhaka.

Xhaka can certainly do what Gilberto used to do
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I had to single this line out. You need to try opening your eyes hen we play. Xhaka is nowhere near even being mentioned in the same breath as Gilberto for a defensive role. Xhaka lets players past him all the time and the reason we needed the extra CB was to make up for his lack of defensive work.
As I have said time and time again, you need to watch him closely and you will soon see he lets players past him far too easily far too often. Gilberto wasa great defensive player.

Fair enough. Partner him with William Carvalho and you will have a discount version of Petit/Vieira.
Look we will never have the quality of two world cup winners in midfield again. Pogba cost £80m and he is not as good as Vieira. But you don't need to be as good because the premier league doesn't have the quality of Madrid, Barca or Atletico. There are no dominantly supreme clubs.
But Wenger needs to back to what worked between 1996-2005.

no costa no hazard Pedro almost assasinated by that useless waste of space you called a keeper. First game of preseason. Arsenal were lucky to get Nil. None of our newguys available to play. Boga Willy hardly gonna be first teamers.

Not the correct context. I would wager those 3 would beat all the premier league teams. I think it may take a season or two before the premier league is back to the top.
Any one of 6 teams can win the premier league with a few acquisitions.
