Good to hear there’s been some improvement at least. Hope they have some good news for you on Saturday. Keep us posted.
Daz, that was the season we pummelled them in the first clásico and were playing some really wonderful football.
Then Modric sustained a serious and rather unusual injury around November iirc whilst on duty with Croatia, hardly overplayed at that stage. We still held the initiative and a 4-point lead at the top when James got his foot broken against Sevilla- again, not through being overplayed. We then lost three out of the next seven without James, and when Modric finally did return it was deep into the season and he was unable to regain his form.
I recall Madrid being amazing even without Modric up until around the time they went to the club world cup. Then they seemed to run out of steam and they dropped off a bit. Pretty sure we spoke about the lack of rotation at the time?
I might be getting the seasons mixed up, though.
we've stuffed everton and got carlo from them
you see , we are still a big club
You might be appointing Luis Campos, so not that big, you’re gonna operate like Lille and Monaco.
Jokes aside, that’s an interesting appointment to the club if it happens. Madrid operate on a completely different level to those clubs in the transfer market. And there’s obviously a difference in the leagues. Monchi going to Roma was a good example of the struggles that a transfer market wizard can have away from a place they’re comfortable in.

I don't remember the rotation stuff. I do remember we had the league by the scruff until that James injury. It was that 7-game streak that killed us. It wasn't just James missing though. The game we lost to Atleti we were without Ramos, Pepe, Marcelo and Modric too. Most were rushed back for the Barcelona game, but our form had dropped off.
I dunno, I just remember it being a thing. I’m probably wrong.
Trent called up for England. Southgate bowing to the pressure.
So which RB has he dropped?
None of them. We’re taking all four.

Lucky Carlo didn’t rotate?
Carlo is weird, some of his teams have played amazing football. Then others have been horrendous. This Everton team were worse to watch than any Mourinho team.
Obviously you need good players, and Everton’s squad is shiiiiit and slow, but I was surprised but just how poor to watch they were.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
he only going too all these clubs so his son, Davide can put "assistant coach at PSG, Bayern Munich, Napoli, Everton n Real Madrid" on his resume when he applies 4 head coach position @ teams like Nimes, Kickers Often Bark, Citadella, Shroosbury n El Jeffe
Yeah I did actually read about the work experience for his son.
Spare a thought for James Rodriquez. Convinced to join Everton only for Ancelotti to fack off back to Madrid a year later.
If he wanted to start in the PL I think that was more or less his ceiling at the time. He could probably have found a CL level club on the continent.
He’d start for Arsenal. I think he only came to England because of Ancelotti. He’ll probably be off to Italy or something now. He only has a year on his contract.
He really disappointed second half of the season.
What’s your England thoughts Daz?
Arsenal obvs the much bigger name, but they're the same kind of level nowadays. Just for the sake of it though, where and in whose place do you think he'd start? I've no idea what system Arteta plays.
You'd think so, yeah, although I read Everton have an option to extend an extra year.
Can't see anyone stumping up too much cash for him though, especially since he's had injury trouble again.
Rodriguez would play in the position of Odegaard probably I’d imagine - even though their strengths are a bit different
I think we are a cm short. The wide/full back options are overkill. But it screams 343, which I just don’t like with this England squad.
ioag, they’ve lacked creativity and goals from midfield this season. He’d have started as an attacking mid or on the right. Though his fitness seems to be a big problem. Shame what’s happened to his career, I always really liked him.
I think it depends whether Everton are willing to just write him off. They didn’t pay a transfer fee for him so it’s no financial loss for them.
Though it depends who they get as their next manager. He had a decent start but he wasn’t very good for them. They could really do with some faster and more powerful players. Without going all prem cliche, they really are a team that lacks the pace to consistently compete in the league. Particularly out wide.
I think Trent for JWP and White or Godfrey for Coady or Mings and I’m happy.
It does absolutely scream 523 agreed which is annoying as the 433 is so much better but hopefully Maguire will be fit enough by the end of the tournament that we can shift to that. I think having a half fit Hendo as one of the 4 midfielders is so unnecessarily risky
I don’t even get that thinking about a back four hinging on Maguire. Coady is the only English cb that needs to play in a back five. Cb’s a weakness, but that doesn’t mean you have to change your whole system to accommodate it. It’s not like a lot of these players can’t, and haven’t, played in a more defensive set up when they’ve needed to.
I’m generally okay with what Southgate’s done with England. But this back five thing, if it persists, is one I just cannot get on board with.
I think they can - I just think Southgate sees it as Maguire or back 5
Yeah which I don’t really get. I’m not even convinced it makes us that much stronger defensively. But it does limit our attack and I think we find it harder to play out from the back when we set up that way.
The formation itself isn’t a huge problem, but I see it the same way as I do when United use it. Oh well, we’ll get knocked out in the last 16 anyway regardless of formation.
Conte to Spurs then?
