When it comes to ‘mentality’ I do wonder how much of this club related stuff is a load of BS and how much is actually true. Some clubs like Rube/RM and SAFs Man Utd do genuinely have the mental bottle that other clubs don’t have. Yet outwith that I think it’s a myth. Luck and chance play much more of a part.

4za, talented, fleet-footed, but he's stagnated over the past 2-3 seasons. Don't think he's hit his ceiling yet, but he might be one of these guys who never do quite make it. What sort of money's involved?

Edin, I do think the mind plays a huge part in pro sport and, conversely, I feel we often blame luck when in fact over the course of a match or a tie the pendulum of fortune generally swings both ways.

In short, more often than not it's not about luck, but about having the ability and self-belief to capitalise on it.

I think it can play on the minds of players. Doesn’t mean it will always manifest itself on the pitch but it is something that exists, in my opinion.

I think mentality does have a big part to play, but it is often overstated. The teams with better mentality often end up nearer the top/are the more successful of the teams - yet there are factors. Football, unlike any other sport, is more dependent on one significant moment of luck & other reasons for luck on top of that.

Look at Arsenal, everyone used to label them with a bottling mindset - but a bit of fortune went their way and a lot of easy FA cup draws and they win 3 in 4 years which is ridiculously impressive. To stick with the same team, Birmingham didn't have any better mindset when they beat Arsenal in the LC final, they were victims of good fortune themselves.

Again, the best teams with the most resilience always end up near the top - that isn't a coincidence - yet I think to some levels mindsets are overstated.

Scousers

posted on 10/3/18

If he's going to hang around much longer, we should just give him until December off, then play him into form during Jan.

That way we might still have a chance of challenging on more fronts.

How did you feel about the game, Dazza? Only watched the first half and we were deservedly in front, if only Mata buried that chance.

posted on 10/3/18

Hung on in the end. But kept Liverpool pretty quiet despite their possession. Wasn’t pretty second half but I’ll always take those wins against the scousers. It’s been too long since we beat them. Need to go on and cement second from here now. Even with focus on the cups we should still have enough to do that with our fixtures.

Only got City left really that is a hard game, but very impressed that we've got 9 points from our last three games now.

Yeah 9 points is great. Wasn’t expecting it. Only played well in three halves which is a bit concerning but at least we are getring results.

Closet Mourinho fans

Man United fans mate. Only result you can’t criticise as the result means the most.

For me as a Chelsea fan, it’s strange. Even though Mourinho is no longer with us I just can’t help but fall in love with performances like the one today by Manchester United. Time and time again Mourinho proves his quality, but I’ll never tire of watching it. I do miss having him at Stamford Bridge, but just watching him at United isn’t so bad I guess. As long as I can watch his teams play I’ll be happy I think.

Kane will be a miss at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea win that and it makes the race for top four more interesting.

If Conte facks up their record against Spurs at the Bridge the knives will be out.
