The premier league have their own letter set which they make all teams wear, as do the FA (for the FA cup). In other competitions teams tend to wear the letters supplied by the kit manufacturer, and Nike's set at the moment are all lower case.
Just remembered that the FA run the Premier League, which explains why the letter sets are the same for league and cup.
