i think he must of wanted to retire once his career is back up and running again. always think retiring after a disaster is always suspect. great servant, to england was wayne i wish him well
If he looked after himself his record would of been even more impressive. Went through stages of his career looking absolutely shot to bits.
Scholes retired at the right time
They are taking the mick out of rooneys 'acting' career in radio 1.

He was a great actor when playing for England in tournaments, much like the rest of the overpaid dead-legs.

Only goes up to A (Andorra)
Not a great International player.
Never produced the goods when it mattered.
Broke the record simply because of appearances.
Good riddance
Very few players have the ability to be so enormously overrated and exaggeratively underrated at the same time. He is still good enough to play for England but never quite reached the heights he should have. Excellent player but never quite great.

He should have retired really when he put in his worst ever performance as captain against Iceland.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Lets be honest, none of the players from 1998- present have performed in tournaments

With the exception of maybe Cole and Owen, possibly one or two more, yeah they've underperformed. Rooney is no different, but his performance in that match as the captain was woeful and should have told him he's not got it for England anymore.
Massively underappreciated by England fans. Will be celebrated more by future generations
yes future generations won't see who he scored his goals against.

Think he can make the squad as a substitute but nothing more than that. Rest up Rooney, Everton needs you more

yes a quick look and it does seem owen and shearer scored against better competition.
Huge disappointment in every tournament barring that first in 2004, his red face huffing and puffing through the heat.
Great in qualifying
No loss to the National side at all. We qualified as easily without him as we often did with him
Shocked to hear the news
Called back into the England set up as expected with his recent form
Strange decision indeed

He wasn't a very good player at international level. Very good players perform in major tournaments, not against poor team in qualifying.
Crouch had a great record in qualifying

Not his fault, he scored more goals per game than Rooney. Maybe we would have got past the quarter finals with better coaches
