Cricket World XI

Hard to argue too much with that, I'd personally go Warner over Tamim. 3 is competitive with Smith vs Williamson vs Amla vs Pujara vs ... Westley!

Think I'd go Smith, Williamson, Root as my 3-5. Shakib vs Stokes at 6 depending on the pitch. I'd pick Herath over Jadeja as my main spinner, Jadeja is obviously a handful in India but I'd go for the experience of Herath for all pitches. I'd also go for a left arm seamer for variety so would pick Starc over Hazlewood, just because I don't want to pick too many Aussies.

How come there is no Amir in any world eleven.

Before his suspension he would have been, but since he came back, hasn't been the same, pace has dropped, dosent swing the ball as much, and he hasn;t really taken many wickets since coming back..

No Steve Smith? He's been arguably the best player in tests for a couple of years now.

Smith averages an incredible 60.18 with over 5,000 test runs, has to be in, as does Root, Williamson, Cook Anderson, Philandering, Kholi

Wanted Smith in there, but where do you fit him in? Can't get everyone in...

Ali and Elgar are questionable

Ali has been a better opener than Cook in the last 12 months. Scored runs all over the world.

Cook has been on a steady decline for a while now. I think we'll see him improve a little over the next couple of years following relinquishing the captaincy. A consistent opening partner for him could be a boost, he could well be more frustrated than most by the chopping and changing at the top. Despite that, I think most would pick a partner for Cook in their world XIs rather than not pick him, a good argument can be made for Ali.

Unfortunately I agree about Cookie, a great batsman, but an average summer baring his figure boosting 243....

Pretty poor contribution really. He's got nothing on Tom Westley.

If I remember rightly that was from two innings out of ten, on flat pitches at Lords and the dead rubber at Oval.

When the ball was zipping around he didn't do very well.

On Tom Westley, not quite good enough at Test level.

No shame in that.

No doubt, I follow Essex and was an advocate for him getting into the side. Looks a bit all over the place at the moment but I hope he's not just dropped unless England plan a reshuffle with Root moving to 3.
