Gauging the feeling

Same sh** diff day. Not too much to add because I've said it before but now the optimism will die down a bit or at least the blind faith happy clappy stuff!

Also mentioned before we lack something Stevenage has that is key to being a success... it also to be summed up by their manager before the game, about it being down the hearts and minds of the players on the pitch.
Our lot just don't give a damn most of the time, and if I'm wrong then it's Megson who can't get them motivated they can't all be right and they can't all be wrong.

JJ proved again what a bad reason he was to be re-signed it really doesn't end with Megson I'm afraid.

Thin ice for me. Not really been a megson basher but lets face it he is completely old school in tactics and style, it just doesn't seem to work anymore.

Stateside is right, it appears that season after season we lack that crucial element of heart and passion for the club and the team. Yet this is what Megson has as a wednesday fan and definitely had as a player, but he seems incapable of passing it on to the shower we saw tonight.

Megson can't take all the blame, after all this is the side virtually everyone of us would have put out tonight as well. It is the same team that played so well in the second half against MK on Saturday, yet completely lost the plot at kick-off tonight....or.....is that the problem, the plot?? We may see the formation as 442 and be happy with that but we have no idea what Megson's instructions were to the players with regards to tactics etc.

I have never been a coach of any sport but I am a Manager of over 30 sales guys and support staff, and it just strikes me again and again that his man-management skills are woefully lacking and the loud bully type tactics simply don't work with a vast majority of people. I am not saying we should pamper them but as a manager he has to learn what each of them responds to.

Thaiowl today posted a video of the team going to the Rumbelows Cup Final in 91 and not only did it bring back great memories (and a tear to my eyes!!) but it shows what a superb man-manager Big Ron was. When you lok at the successful managers we have had they have either been great man-managers, such as Big Ron and Wor Jackie, or great tacticians such as Wilkinson. Megson unfortunately appears to be neither!!

The away record under him so far is appalling, and it does not read much better in his other jobs either. Statistics show that the home team wins more often than not, so we should expect to win at home, but the successful teams are solid away and pick up a decent amount of wins and draws in the process. We lose nearly all our away games.

He has played mainly defensive formations away from home and this is not working, but a question for you guys based in Britain, do other teams constantly change formation from game to game?? I am not referring to Man Utd or Chelsea, who have excellent players who can play in any team, I am talking about teams at our level. Surely having a settled side, with a settled formation and relatively settled tactics will make the team better?? If for example Prutton is told to support the front two at home, why would he not do it away from home? The strikers are still there in both games!!

Sorry for the war and peace post. And I still feel no better having got it off my chest!!

That was our best team out last night. We can't even make an excuse that we didn't have so and so fit, or we had a man sent off. Promotion sides lose games but they don't get battered. We're way off being a top 6 side IMO. We always seem to play quite badly but at home we somehow get away with it, away from home I feel we're always in danger of getting a hiding.
I'd have not hired Megson, I would be looking for reasons to get rid. Last night and his dismal away record is one very good reason.

Yet again, I agree. Wonder where all the positive people telling us to stop moaning will be today.

yeah yeah, heard it all before - I want us to fail blah blah

If I didn't want things to go well, I wouldn't complain when I watch us and we're useless..

It's fookin Simple lets stick with the 442 our player must like that formation cos they play well when we use it. Why does Megson keep trying 451 when it doesn't work it only encourages us to sit deep which put all the players under too preasure then it only takes one player to fooook up then it free for all for the oposition.

Megson stop trying to prove your point & admit your wrong!!

He palyed 4-4-2 last night. The top and the bottom of it is, for some unknown reason, we've been appalling in the first half of most games this season. Last night Stevenage took advantage of that where (luckily) other teams haven't.

I don't like Megson and never wanted him as manager but we've got what we've got and only one person can change that an that's Milan Mandaric. So until he decides to wield the axe, all we can do is support our team. UTO

No all is not lost there's plenty of games...

But after 8 games you should be able to see a glimpse of how the team performs. And it's consistantly rubbish, even off the back of the Charlton and MK dons game which were great results indeed, but shocking performances.
We were lucky that both MK and Charlton were as dire as us otherwise we'd have taken nothing.
I even said that when/if we play a team that tries in the first half we'd be out of the game by the second half and that's exactly what happened last night and unless something changes will keep happening..

It is only a game, but that's no excuse for lack of professionalism

It's not all rosey, sorry but it aint!

"And it's consistantly rubbish"

That's bollards.

The only thing that is consistent is inconsistency!

Nobody's saying everything is rosy are they??

Not quite, but there's an incredible ammount of denial.

At least you agree we're consistantly inconsistant though

Yes inconsistantly but looking at other teams at the top they are abit hit & miss so all is not lost we just need to play from the full 90mins & not under estimate the so called smaller teams & i think we'll finish in the playoffs.

6th to 10th is what I believe this team currently capable of taking into account both form and results.
I agree every team hits a bad spell but what makes it difficult is realising that when teams come to us on a bad day, we should be capitalising not meeting their sub-standard and then grinding it out..

Honest question now for anyone who's regularly been to the home games.
Did we ever come out ready for the KO whistle? or did we only ever start playing in the second half?

to me almost every game's 1st and second half were night & day.

From the games I've been too we have looked good when trying to put pressure on the opposition. But it seems that we sit back and see what they want to do first which means us sitting back and this is when we get punished. We should stop thinking about their game plan and just go out there and play football and keep the pressure on them. take Bury for example we were totally played o off the park. but when we started trying to push forward (begining of second half) they couldn't cope with a lot of it.

posted on 14/9/11

Suffering, I know we had to roll the ball forward one revolution to kick off the second half at bury but that was the end of our pushing forward

posted on 14/9/11

Fair do's Suffering. But did we come out ready with blood smelling mentality in any given first half?

Sorry brother it was a vague answer to my q!

posted on 14/9/11

I haven't seen it at the start of any match Stateside, so no would be the answer i suppose.

Terry - now i can be the most harsh critic at times and even though funny i believe you are being a tad harsh. We did have 2 goals disallowed and we did put 1 on the board.

All i'm trying to say is if they believed they could play all the time as they sometimes do i.e attacking and not letting the opposition play then we would be a lot better of than we are. Where this believe comes from. well thats another discussion point

Sure, It is beyond me why Megson unsettles them with the constant change defensivly (formation)..this is down to him and he is to atone for this.
But surly Megsons telling them something and they dont/wont act we can all speculate as to the goings on. But I see players who don't respect what their manager is asking them to do...or the players /can't are unwilling...

Like you I don't want Megson sacked at this point it will ruin us and yet again leave the players in a 'wtf' mentality wondering where they stand when the next gaffer comes in...

It's another season down here it really is, we don't look like we'll get it right this time but we're better than before. And that is in itself improvement. Seriously to be honest I Wouldn't want us to go back up to the Champ and then have such a turbulent season we end up right back where we are again.... Fix THEN progress not throw plasters on the wounds
