We are the people who follow the Glasgow Rangers. Inclusive, sense of belonging and cultural identity. And in recent times, football superiority.

It's a declaration of human traits as they could easily be perceived as alien like...A sort of reassurance

It depends on which word you put the emphasis on.

'WE are the people'
means something different to
'We ARE the people'
which means something different to
'We are THE people'
which means something different to
'We are the PEOPLE'.

Anyhoos... WE ARE THE PEOPLE!!

To me it means...

...We Are the People...who follow The Rangers.....to Celtic fans it seems to have some sort of sectarian connotations, but then anything a Rangers supporter says these days seems to offend the great unwashed!

I've heard several others in different parts of the world and in different contexts use the same or similar phrase. Don't understand why it should be so misinterpreted by some idiots.

WTF is sectarian about the whiteman supremicist delusion?

Well it's a great contract to We are ALL Neil Lennon.

Rangers fan see themselves as a collective, united together behind their team. Regardless of colour, creed or religious belief, we are the people.

Celtic fans seem to think they are all Northern Irish bigots.

Strange eh?

contract = contrast

One thing is for sure, there are lots of Celtic fans who desperately want it to mean something really bad.

or....

there are plenty of rangers fans who want to know the real meaning of it because they sing it every week not knowing a jot about its origins

clever these fans in blue eh...

the earliest i have seen this slogan mentoined was in the 70's in belfast, the protestants bloked the road with furniture and flew a white flag dubbed in black writing with the immortal words "we are the people"

who knows if it originates from there or not, but this is factual and documented by television..

surely the bears, while trying to eradicate sectarianism from the hoard would establish the meaning of any slogans before they start chanting about it?

...............................................................................

That sounds pretty intolerant!

A bigot is One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.

We are the people = We are the anti catholic, child abuse joking, vile, moronic followers of the most bigoted club in Scottish football history.

"surely the bears, while trying to eradicate sectarianism from the hoard would establish the meaning of any slogans before they start chanting about it?"

You don't think the fact that nobody knows where it comes from makes its original meaning irrelevant?

I think we're getting into hokey-cokey territory here - There are far more important things to be addressed.
