I don't really think the sum is that relevant , it is what it is.
The player is making it impossible for a fair resolution.
So by the players actions the club will find it nigh on impossible to recoup his transfer value , lets say 50m .
And then have to go and replace him at a cost of nearer 100m in todays market.
Is that really the right message to send out to players and agents.
I don't think so !
Mutu never paid a penny. then the Swiss court said we couldnt sue the teams that signed him after so we were out all of his 22mill transfer fee
Look Costa is never going to cough up.
But the club could make an example of him , due to his reluctance in helping the resolution.
Or the club can leave the matter and give the green light for all and sundry to be safe in the knowledge that any contract Cfc give means nothing and the club will let you rip them off , for 50p or 50m.
He'll just show them the text Conte sent him.

Some one's obviously not fully conversant with the full facts of the case.
Both Costa and his agent were told by the club to find a new club for the coming season in January, 6 months before textgate.
Costa seems to be playing poker with a very weak hand if he thinks a text message is going to give his lawyer any leverage to work with!
The text means nothing IMO. Unless there was a deal and Chelsea refused to sell, then Costa has no case. If no one has offered his value to buy him then his contract is still valid and he has breached it.
Seriously , you cannot apply basic employment law in regard to this.
Firstly he has a contract .
Secondly it is with Chelseafc NOT Conte.
Thirdly he has been made aware of the clubs position previous to any issue surrounding the texts/ text.
Fourth the club have not in any way obstructed his contract .
By the nature of his work/ contract he would need to attend to be eligible for selection so that he could play, be loaned or sold.
By complying the club would be in position to release him from his contract , ensuring all commercial and employment rights for both parties are met.
His failure to return is making it impossible for the club to meet its obligations to him .ie, pay his wages and get the fit proper return for his value as a commercial asset..
Finally,
His relationship with the manager had broken down.
Ok
The club and manager had assured him he could leave as he wished.
Next he could have returned put two fingers up to the manager told him fck right off.
Next the club would have reprimanded him fined him ( 2 weeks)
Next he would have gone into training pre season, after that he would have been loaned until he could have his move or he could have been sold to Atletico and they would have paid his wages until they could register him to play.
Im mean seriously why is this getting blown way out of proportion .
The way its going, unless he returns , he will become in broiled in a lengthy expensive court case which will obstruct him from playing at least till the end of his Cfc contract .
