Jimmy Greaves ahead of the real Ronaldo!
Riggght
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Greaves did score 139 more club goals
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Game, set and match to the great man.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure if you 2 are high on something, but Jimmy Greaves is a class below Ronaldo de Lima. Comfortably. Comparing stats across eras is a bit silly as well. The 60's was a higher scoring era of football than the 90's and early 00's. And then there's the injury that cut down Ronaldo from his prime in his early 20's. That didn't stop him winning the World Footballer of the Year THRICE.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Greavsie was pist for the majority of his career and played on mud with little protection from referees

True sheriff, all that at the same time as being about as competitive as the SPL
-------------------------------------------------
Yes. Because the SPL had an equivalent of Benitez' Valencia. Or Simeone's Atletico. And the SPL have had the likes of Atletico, Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao tearing it up in the Europa.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Europa league is basically a reserve team competition up until the semis. used to be a good competition 20 years back, but now it is used to play the squad players.
,
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Think that's just us taking that approach Sandy
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Most European teams do the same. Wenger will not be playing anything other than his squad players in this years Europa. It is like the League Cup of European football.

---------------------------------------
Don't kid yourself. Any team that reaches the quarters stage throw everything at it as it's usually the biggest accomplishment they can hope for at that stage of the season. Even the year Fergie's Man U dropped into it, then went at it full pelt and got played off the park home and away by Bilbao. Don't go denigrating it because you were flopping in it.
You'd think Spurs fans would want to respect the Europa.
Trophies are scarce for them and surely any trophy is better than the 'we started playing good stuff from January but won nothing' trophy
Though I agree with the general point, Sheriff, we didn't go full pelt for the Europa under Fergie. Our attitude in that competition was a disgrace that year. We did last year, however.
Greavsie was pist for the majority of his career and played on mud with little protection from referees
--------------------------------------------
As was everyone else in the 60's footy culture. Strikers were still banging it in and Spurs were winning games 13-2 and 10-4 around 59/60/61 if I'm not mistaken. Some half-drunk, spaghetti legged unathletic defenders flying around into tackles doesn't seem to have stopped goals flying in.

We had a few players missing, but it was the attitude of the players on the pitch. Bilbao player excellent, no doubt, but that was not a Manchester United team that were going full pelt for the Europa, you could visibly see they didn't give a fack and thought they were above the competition.
It did then and still piiiiiisses me off when I think about the Europa campaign (it wasn't just the Bilbao games).
Obviously the league was always more important which probably contributed to that attitude, but it was still poor as far as I'm concerned.

Err, no. Nothing convenient in pointing out statistical differences between eras. I remember I once did a similar comparison when I was comparing Greaves' record to a different player, Henry, and showed that when weighted against the scoring records in their respective eras, Henry had more impressive stats. It is silly to simply say Player A in 1962 scored more than player B in 2002: therefore player A > player B. Like comparing the US Masters scores of Nicklaus with Tiger Woods without comparing how they measure with their contemporaries.
