Doesn't matter if the intent was to get the ball, he missed and kicked a player in the face.
It was accidental, but is the definition of dangerous play, you kick someone in the head that high off the ground, it's a red
The keeper went off injured.
Surely that is evidence enough that it wasn't just some unlucky matter of 'oops'

Nani got sent off for less against Madrid to be fair. You just can't do that anymore.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly, Nani was a defenite red, and as this was worse than that challenge, only 1 outcome.

How was Nani's a definite red?
So it's okay for players to do wild overhead kicks in crowded penalty areas but not okay to raise your leg in a controlled manner a few feet off the ground?
The rules makes no sense
Still think it's harsh, would everyone be moaning had the ref given him a yellow instead.

It was a reckless and dangerous challenge. Clear red.
Carragher just agreed it's a red

That replay is conclusive. Awful challenge. Great decision Jon Moss.
Yeah, maybe on the 10th viewing it is too dangerous, shame as he clearly didn't mean it and had every right to go for it. Shame as it has completely changed the game.
I'm not saying it wasn't a red, Mane should've gone in with his head but he went with the easy option and led with his leg.
My point is why it's okay for players to do overhead kicks yet they can't challenge for 50-50s with their legs high? Most overhead kicks are challenged by defneders with their heads yet I've never seen a ref even give a free kick for an overhead kick

Of course they would, he kicked the keeper in the head and seriously injured him.
Rules are rules. Was it dangerous and reckless? Yes on both accounts.
"Sorry m'Lud I accidentally raped her - but I had my eyes on the ball!"
"seriously injured him"
TBF we have no idea how injured he actually is, I know he went off but we don't know the extent of the injury. Also how injured the player is doesn't always correlate to how strong the discipline.
Harsh decision my bolx
😄
He had no right to go for it at that height with his foot of another player is nearby, it's a foul for high leg even if he gets there first.
This is basic rules that aren't even new.
With another player nearby
Besides the red, idnt it funny to watch horrenderson try and play football?
melton
Yes he does, if he was a fraction of a second quicker he would have won the ball and the ref would not have stopped the game. A player is allowed to raise his feet into the air like that even if it can be dangerous.
Mu82
Have you seen the images of Edersons face?
Pretty gruesome
He should have done though for high leg lift if he won the ball. No a player isn't, not at all when it can be dangerous.

I agree, but at the end of the day it proves that the challenge alwas dangerous which warrants a red.
Robb
He's quite ugly tbf.
Melton
You're implying that a bicycle kick near opponents is against the rules as it's a high leg too. Of course there's a level of danger and when injury occurs a foul will be given. IMO Mane had every right to go for the ball but unfortunately for him the keeper was a faction quicker.
