The CB trio has so much potential. Jan and Tony are brilliant but the three could well be magnificent. Very pleased today, hopefully we will push on. Looking forward to Wednesday. COYS
Haha tony!
Looking forward to seeing Aurier play Wednesday.
A defence of
Aurier Sanchez Toby Vert Rose
Isn't going to concede many!
Hey lads, been grafting all day today so only know the result. Great result I should say, albeit a good time to play them
Sounds a promising debut from the boy Sanchez. How did he fit in to that back three? Kept it simple, or did he get forward?
Nice to see that sort of result with a 3421 with no Dier in the back three, no Rose and Walker/Aurier, and neither of Wanyama and Dembele starting. Promising for the European campaign
He kept it simple and played in the middle of the 3
He played in the middle, Phenom? Interesting. I must admit, I thought he would be put on the right all day long.
How did they play as a three? Was he stepping up like a sweeper, or was he anchoring while Toby and Jan cracked on?
I tell.you what, if Sanchez, Aurier and Llorente hit the ground running we will be a big force this season. If we can get a tune out of Sissoko on top of that, all the more promising

Tbh they didn't pose too much of a forward threat nothing got in behind either 3 of them. Toby and vert pushed forward making runs and forward passes. While Sanchez kept it simple, short passes and acted like a sweeper you could say!

Agreed. Seeing the players missing from today and how easy we made it look still is exciting.
5221 for me every game, I just think when we play 4231 we are half the team.
Bench today was better than any bench from the last two seasons! And that's with Rose, wanyama etc out injured
It was more of a 352 today
Sissoko-Dier-Eriksen were a midfield 3 with Dele supporting Kane
I guess he doesn't trust Sissoko too deep in midfield which is justified
Looks a good player, definitely has a few mistakes in him though and his distribution against us in the Europa final was abysmal. He's young though so could iron out those negatives.
I guess.. even so the key to our play is the threat posed by our full backs and Davies was fantastic today
I said it at the time, I am more than happy with our window.
People moan about defenders being signed, but it was all a bit lopsided. If Sanchez does not sign we either have:
A.Wimmer as the middle guy today (awful there)
B. Dier gos in the back three and we have Winks and Sissoko in midfield (nowhere near ideal). Or Dembele, who I assume is being rested for Dortmund.
C. We are forced to to a back four (not ideal with Trippier and Davies having to get up and down).
Another rightfooted centreback really opens up our options.
A Barkley would have been ideal, but overall we really balanced the sqaud
100% agree HRH. Barkley and a pacey forward of quality really would have made our squad looking forbidible and very very balanced indeed

A bit of pace is always alright by me, but at present if picking a first XI then Son would be that man on the bench (back 3) or pitch (back 4), so not a priority. A cherry on the Barkley cherry that
It looks as if Sissoko may just well get his act together and contribute, which would give us some destructive pace, but my real hope is GKN has an impact in his 2nd season, as others have. I love an old-fashioned winger who takes people on with pace and trickery.
So HRH, you now realising Poch isn't going to shell out 42m on a defender for the long term?

Eh?
You said a couple of weeks ago, he was a long term signing and wouldn't be a starting player. When I said Poch didn't spend that amount unless he would become integral from the off. To which you said something along the lines of time will tell if he starts against Burnley or Everton...

Yeah I will give you that.
As a caveat to that, Wanyama is injured so Dier was needed elsewhere. Would he have got a start if Vic was fit? Who knows. Maybe, maybe not
Poch also spent 30m on Sissoko, who definitely was not brought in to go directly in the XI
No gripe mate, just calling it has panned out as I predicted. Still early to call, but early signs are good. But I hear what your saying also in regards to Wanyama. At least its a positive from a negative.

Sometimes that is the best way. Nobody is dropped, less pressure on him. Perhaps he would always have started.
I am delighted he got a start and performed. Great news for us
I think he will play Weds now. If it all clicks, Vic will be the one fighting for his place
