I agree but 5221/3421 is our best formation
OP, I think you'll find that as the home team @ Wembley you are expected to take the game to your opponents whereas you can play free flowing counter attacking football as the away team.
Nearly totally mental I think, a club with as good players as Spurs have should have no problem with a different pitch size.
The media and fans have made a hype about not winning at Wembley and spurs are playing on it. Now it seems twice as hard to win. It's like Liverpool and there so called famous cup comebacks. Same thing here, the ideology plays on the minds of everyone involved. Liverpool being 6-3 down on aggregate seems to help them.
The pitch size may be a few metres bigger but not vastly different from most other pitches. The nou camp is the same. People think that's the size of airfield when in fact it's the height of the TV camera that makes it look like a gigantic pitch.
Regarding Spurs, it's a problem with the crowd seating, and the general atmosphere of Wembley. Very different to White Hart Lane.
100% Mental....... I don't think there is a team in the league that we should be fearful of. As proved over the past couple of years, man for man we are as good as anybody out there. Most of the big 6 have been & will be chasing our best players and we have beaten all of them comfortably over the past couple of years.. whether we are playing at Wembley, Old Trafford WHL etc should not make any difference
Edbo:
I see what you're saying, and you should really be able to play on any pitch, but it was about having a compact home pitch where we could dictate play.
These numbers don't lie:
"The old White Hart Lane, as it must now be called, measured 100m x 67m whereas the Wembley surface is 105m x 69m, making it larger than any in the Premier League. Wembley is 8% bigger than White Hart Lane or, to put it another way, Pochettino’s players have 545 square metres more to cover at the national stadium. Consequently they must work harder to close down opposing teams and it is no great stretch to say that it is more difficult for them to impose their pressing style at Wembley."
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/jul/22/tottenham-wembley-find-bearings-quickly
545 extra square metres is a huge difference.
*New Stadium pitch 105x68m, standard PL size
*WHL 100x67m,smallest in PL
*Wembley 105x69m
Feckin crazy that all pitch sizes are not the same in this day and age (105 x 68) given the amount of cash sloshing about in the game.
Jenas done an article pre season about how much extra the wembley pitch takes it out of you.
An extra few metres doesnt sound a problem but he was always more knackered after an England game than for his club.

Not always possible with the older stadiums, that extra 5 meters would of had one of the goals in row c at the old WHL.

They have to be unless the stadium can't physically do it. All new stadiums must have the 105x68 pitch
I saw a stat that said our chamces of winning were reduced by something like half last season if playing on the biggest pitches.
Not taking in to account all of our home games were on a smaller pitch so would skew the stats
It is the unfamiliarity of the stadium is all. The pitch size is a myth. Our worst two away games were at Liverpool and City, one small one big

Fair do's, typical of the knob-jockies at the FA to make Wembley wider than anywhere else then!
I suppose it gives them an excuse when we(England) play shiite?

Not strictly true is it. The last time Spurs beat Liverpool was in 2012.
I read an interesting view point due to familiarity being the biggest issue. If Kane (for example) picks up the ball with his back to goal and see's himself in line with one of the pillars at the old WHL he knew how far out he was.
With the fans being so close behind the goal at WHL you judge where you hit the ball based on their depth, and the fact that Wembley fans are further away may cause you psychologically to kick the ball a bit higher than before.
I'd be worried if this was an u11 team playing on a full sized pitch but grown men? Absolute cobblers. Evidently we have one of the fittest squads in the EPL so how can it be a negative factor. Bollox. It's mindset and teams raise their games playing at the home of football.

I read or saw a piece by Danny Murphy, probably the same one.
He said he knew the sightlines at CC like the back of his hand, knew exactly what weight and direction of ball to play without even looking up or something similar
https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/danny-murphy-sorry-tottenham-fans-you-might-not-be-able-to-lord-it-over-rivals-arsenal-after-all-a3526476.html?amp
"You know the pitch dimensions like the back of your hand. If I was playing for Fulham at Craven Cottage and I wanted to play a high ball to Clint Dempsey on the left, I knew exactly where to put it. I knew how long it would take him to run from his starting point to where he needed to be to challenge the right-back for the header. This all happened without thinking; it was just natural."
