Doubt it would've made any difference, we would still be powder puff in midfield.

Yep agree.
Hindsight tells us that Fabregas would have been a better signing but in Wenger's defence Ozil was more highly rated at the time and no one would have guessed that he wouldn't have progressed as perhaps everyone expected.
Can you imagine if we'd passed up the opportunity to sign him and then he'd gone to say Man U and become a superstar? It was a signing that has failed but I'm not convinced that the one-paced Fabregas (although an improvement on Ozil) would have made that much difference to us.
Criminal decision not to resign Cesc. He want to rejoin us and we had the money. He would have improved our team no doubt about it.

Not sure it was. Ozil was the more highly rated when we bought him and they are too similar in style to incorporate (or afford) both.
Let's put it this way, Barca would have gladly swapped Cesc for Ozil at the time which says it all.
Ozil has up and downs to win the league we needed squad depth and Cesc would have provided that and more.
Wenger seems to have a chip on his shoulder when it comes to resigning players who leave us. Off the top of my head,
Petit, Overmars, Anelka, Vieira, Cesc, Song, Hleb and more should all have been resigned once they flopped after there big move. He only brings them back once they are training with us and on a free when chit hits the fan.
Having a strike force of Henry, Anelka ect would have been class and might have won us the CL.

Cesc was £35m and Ozil was £40m. A lot of money to spend on squad depth (especially 4 years ago).
They are too similar and it was a choice of one or the other and Wenger made a decision that 90% of other Managers would have done at the time to sign Ozil.
It wasnt just Ozil though was it. Aaron Ramsey had just had the best season of his career. Got double figures and was only bettered by Yaya toure that year. And led us to our first trophy in 9 years.

When was Cesc a flat track bully?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He still is
I would have rather we bought Fabregas as he's got that drive and take it by the neck attitude that we often lack badly.
Ozil has done well at times but is part of a side missing leaders on the pitch which Fabregas often is.
Neither player shows up in big games, Ozil more so. I would've liked to see both of them play together... after all we did by Xhaka, so could've definitely bought Cesc. Ramsey also hadn't/hasn't been great for some time.
Physically Cesc is shot, Ozil has that one massive advantage over him. But in my mind when he's on top form, there's not a better play maker than Cesc in the game.
It's not like Ozil a beacon of physical fitness, the way he flops to the floor when you go near him.
Cesc does pretty well for Chelsea in the bigger games after all they have won 2 pl in 3 years with him there. He's been a major part in one of them and a decent addition in the other.
If you look at the players at the time, we had the option to sign Ozil who was regarded by many as the best no. 10 in the world or Fabregas who was surplus to requirements at Barca. Ozil was not a bad decision at the time.
Fast forward a few years and we see Fabregas getting game time at the champions and Ozil looking poor in a team after their worst season for decades.
But I question how much of this is the players fault and how much the managers. Ozil is a player who will make already good players look great and can be a integral part of a team of good players, keeping them performing at a top level. He is a link in the already strong chain. He is not a player that can lift a whole team.
Fabregas on the other hand is a player that will perform in any team. He is better when lifting a team that needs something extra but not quite so good in team that has genuine strength throughout, hence his being dropped at Barca and Chelsea for long periods.
Overall I think Cesc may have improved us more than Ozil.
Ozil was signed a year before Cesc went to Chelsea.
It was never a case of which one, it was a case of whether we should add Cesc to a squad that already included Ozil. And we signed Alexis that summer.
