nonsense comparison, its more akin to a football player dummying the ball in a attempt to deceive a opposition player into thinking that he's going to take the ball just to get a bit of a advantage by slowing the opposing player down, this is the same premise really

i'd rather see umpires crack down on bowlers who deliberately don't release the ball to try to dummy or psych out the batsman. give them warnings as you would for encroaching on the wicket.
Ridiculous law. Batsmen clearly are protected far too much in the modern game and this pretty much sums it up for me.
If a fielder was to feign throwing because he knew the batsman would get back comfortably, why should this be illegal? In the case of no one backing it up, the ball may even go for a boundary if he did throw it.
If fielders cannot dummy getting a ball then batsmen should not be able to dummy being a right handed batsmen for example and then switch hitting. It's exactly the same thing in that its deceiving the bowler.
This new rule is scandalous.
The comparisons to diving or feigning injury in football are to deceive the referee into making an incorrect decision which is cheating. As said by others, surely this is similar to a dummy in football or rugby and banning it seems a bit silly? You're just pretending to play the ball to deceive the opposition and it's a clever skill.
I remember seeing a run out where two fielders chased down a ball and one slid down early and threw a fake which made the batsmen hesitate before going for the run and the second fielder still produced a good pick up and throw to remove the batsmen. It was seen as intelligent fielding rather than "not being cricket" which I guess this rule change is trying to imply.
I used to shout for a second run, when there wasn't one on..just to try to make the fielder panic and throw it in hard, with the change the keeper or bowler may miss it.
It worked a few times...but again, its legal.
Cricket needs to get with the times.

They knew...also it does depend which end I'm at. eg, if its gone down fine leg and I make it back, I'll call for a false run..and shout no 5 seconds later. Just have to time it right wen the fielder is about to pick up the ball.
