I thought you were as old (if not older) than Sir Bobby?

When I was 8 years old I went to Old Trafford and he was running the Bobby Charlton Soccer School at the time and happened to be giving the kids the tour of the stadium and I tagged along and he looked at me and said "Who's that boy?"

True story.

Was he coming out of the toilet, with a few rolls of bog roll, and a cup of tea when you saw him?

I have met him several times also, first time when I was about nine at OT, so before Munich, three other times at OT, once in a bank, and once on Picadilly train station. Even though I approached him he was always polite, and generally cheerful.

Oh, and when I bought his autobiography he signed it and chatted for about five minutes. Still got it.

Safeways in Chorlton precinct, I worked there and used to see him and Sir Matt do their shop in there.

I went to Bobby Charlton Soccer School back in the day and Bobby was a great man. We didn't get to see him much when we were there but I remember one day he joined our group and told us that we needed to celebrate our goals a lot more.

He set up a competiton to see who could celebrate the best. He stood on the right wing and we had to try and score from his crosses and then celebrate. He was in his 50's at the time and could still whip in a mean cross pinpoint to us all. When I scored mine I ran over and jumped on him. We both fell to the ground and he laughed his head off.

The year before we played a Spanish soccer school and beat them 3-1. Beckham played in that game and Bobby said I had great "peripheral vision". I was that young I didn't know what it meant
