Meh another tap in won't change people's minds. Sterling is playing in the best and most attacking team in the league.
Do many of your players get the recognition they deserve? Does Aguero? He's never been in team of the year has he?
When you're a state ran club with bottomless pits of money you don't get the same recognition as other teams. Never will. Everyone knows it's been put on a plate.
But at least you get to watch a fantastic team so why do you care?
Stones was outstanding yesterday - Again.
I've always rated Sterling. People were way too quick to write him off.
Stones, meh
Good to see these players developing after shaky starts from an England perspective
Not likely. People tend to have fixed opinions on certain players based on the past and will never deviate from it, for example:
“Walker can’t cross or defend, he’s a liability”
- This is based on how he was performing as a 23 year old in 2013/14 when he was still maturing and we were crap. He’s no Lahm or Maldini when it comes to defending but he’s improved in all areas since then, but many are blind to it.
I’ve always maintained that defenders mature later than midfielders or attackers so despite Stones’ relative experience, he’s still quite young. While not comparing him talent-wise to these players, the likes of Boateng, Pique, Sergio Ramos and Chiellini weren’t exactly the finished article at his age either.
As for Sterling, he suffered from people expecting nothing but progress from his breakthrough season rather than the usual inconsistency as a young player.

Stones meh?
He's an outstanding player
Certainly in Sterlings case people are just unwilling to change their minds.
They decided he was rubbish at 18 and that's it, anything he does will be confirmation he is rubbish and they will ignore anything good and make excuses like this Nickapolidis fool who slates him at every opportunity.
They were all saying he was doomed when Pep took over. Now they are making excuses for why he scores.
It's embarrassing.
I admit I have questioned Stones ability but he is showing signs of proving me wrong so far this season, which is great for England as we have poor centre half options.
Hopefully he continues to progress.
Sterling will never get the recognition he deserves from opposition supporters, he's one of those players that is an easy target to criticise no matter how well he's playing.
Pep is now turning Stones into exactly the kind of player that he wants him to be. Forget the fee there are not too many players that play this way from the back and Pep has always put his trust in Stones and not criticised him to my knowledge when mistakes have been made.
It's now paying off.
Fair play to Stones. He’s really turned things around. Being at the heart of a defence that managed to concede 2 goals from a solitary shot on target. Impressive ππ

Nah just some bitter jealous πend
Goes to as many games as maf though
Another Match Thread Mickey with an acute dose of bitterness.
Some fair comments by oppo fans so atleast some are noticing it.
One comment stuck out. some will not rate these two regardless of what they do. That seems to be true.
On the contrary.
I cheer City on every season when it becomes evident that my club will do nothing or note.
The only bitterness I have is towards the other clubs your underachievers constantly let get the better of you
Always rated both and said so on many occasions on here.
I always thought Sterling would go on to be an excellent player. Simple reason is that he's intelligent on a pitch. Even when he broke into the Liverpool team as a teenager you could see he'd read the game well, understood his position (and he had several) and found space.
If a player like that is willing to learn then chances are they'll do well. I did wonder for a while if I'm honest because his development seemed to stagnate (thought he'd 'made it' possibly) but seems back on track now.
His biggest problem may be making City's best 11. As good as I think Sterling is/can be; I think Sane will be something a bit special.
Stones I must admit I doubted. Great player but any defender needs to know when to take chances and when not to, I began to wonder whether Stones' decision making was going to be good enough. But again, it appears he's getting there.
Always rated Sterling, one of the best young talents England have produced in a while but media and fans destroy his confidence playing in an England shirt. Said this a few times but in part how young black players can be portrayed by media and perceived by fans in this country.

Perhaps I'm being naive but what do you mean by how young black players are portrayed in the media?
I expect Sterling will get more recognition if he continues this run of good form and has a great season. Before this season he had 2 fairly average seasons at City, so it's understandable why people haven't been singing his praises yet.

There's definitely a slightly unsavoury feeling of how the likes of Daily Mail print their stories on certain players, to create an image they have a 'poor attitude', or give some sort of illusion they're living a playboy/gangster lifestyle. Sterling's treatment was the most obvious, there was a point whatever he was pictured doing it would get spun around as a negative portrayal of him. There's some satirical articles I like from twitter that kind of poke at what I'm on about:
"He’s not even white," says The Sun in cryptic criticism of Raheem Sterling http://bit.ly/2jluHjY
Daily Mail writer proud to get chance to stigmatise footballers, black people and mental health all in same article http://bit.ly/2pYwMqN

Thanks for the response.
I genuinely haven't noticed, although I don't read the likes of the Mail/Mirror/Sun etc.
I think there's a general move to demonise professional footballers for being over-pampered and over-paid (playboy lifestyle).
The only trend I'd noticed is that age appears to be an issue - if a players gets £200k at 19/20 it's considered outrageous but if they're 30+ it's not really an issue.
