The best we can hope for now is that his replacement is only incompetent, and not a dangerous ideologue.

Despite everything he’s been responsible for, particularly the creeping authoritarianism which was only backed and backed and backed by his cabinet, there are potential candidates out there far more dangerous than Boris, all things considered.

This bunch of Tories has:

- taken powers from the judiciary and handed them to the administration
- taken powers from MPs and handed them to the administration
- taken powers from parliamentary authorities and handed them to the administration
- taken powers from individuals and community movements and handed them to the police
- done all it can to erode transparency and accountability

There are few potential candidates I can see who might look to halt or reverse this policy, and some who I’d expect to further and accelerate the agenda.

I cant see anything changing too much, its more of a power grab move by lots than a change of direction

Any new PM calling an election before 2024 would be idiotic, they can pass almost anything they like through the current government..

Tugendhat will be this races "Rory Stewart"

And he would be the most moderate candidate I would think

Downing Street sources suggest Boris Johnson is currently tweaking his resignation statement. Some concern he may not actually read out what was prepared.

Of course he won't. He doesn't live in the real world, and thanks to his supporters, doesn't need to.

At the last election he hid in a fridge, was too scared to be interviewed by O'Neil, barely had a manifesto, his entire campaign pinned on a three word slogan, focus tested to a laser sharp point to enter the minds of the uneducated masses and bizarrely won thanks to his election pact with Farage.

He's infallible, untouchable, he's had people with their tongues up his arrrrse his entire life, as he's stumbled and bumbled his way through it, he is the saddest indictment of the British class system I've ever facking seen, he's taken no responsibility for about 30 incidents now that would of bought down any other government in history. He changed his mind to suit how he feels and his used to reality shifting around that, it's happened throughout his life with any of his flights of fancy, just ask his ex wives, ask the kids he refuses to acknowledge, ask his previous employers.. AND WE STILL ELECTED HIM.

I'd personally be happy if we never heard from him again.

Sunak I think would be a doozy for Labour.

Whether it’s a 2023 or 2024 election, it’ll be very easy to undermine the arguments of a small-state championing billionaire given the state the economy will be in and the bulk of the electorate’s financial woes.

He won’t connect with the Red Wall and other working class voters like Boris did.

It will forever amaze me Boris managed to market himself as a man of the people.

I do have to grudgingly give him some credit for that, but yeah Sunak would have no chance doing that.

You are part of the reason. Calling him "Boris" means you, along with the vast majority of the public, fell for it. You were (and still are) part of the cult.

People just don't get it.

I call him Boris simply because it's easier to type but yes that was part of his carefully crafted persona.
