Great travel book, especially the section where the author journies through Isreal. I read this 20 odd years ago and two parts stuck in my mind:

American tourists commenting on how good the roads were compared to their own, the roads were paid for by America.

Theroux tries to arrange for a Palestinian to visit the house he lived in but was evicted after the 6 Day War and was now occupied by a Jewish family.

"Gaza is a cage, is the biggest prison in the world. Nobody spoke about lifting the siege. People who live 70 years in a cage want to resist, and if they have the possibility they'll do it..."

Israeli journalist Gideon Levy speaking on BBC News.

On a rare occasion the BBC air the views of an anti Israel Jew
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A good point in isolation or to justify conventional warfare, but that's not what happened yesterday is it. What happened yesterday was 24 hours of relentless war crimes against innocent people in their own homes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

What happened yesterday was a symptom of what happens when a large group of people are hemmed into an area and treated like animals with very little rights.

I can almost guarantee if you and your family was treated as badly as the Palestinians have been for decades and decades you might just be a little bit less precious about what Hamas are doing to fight back against an occupying force who vastly outnumber and outgun them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Are we allowed to call Gaza what it is?
A concentration camp.
Oh and what is heroic about watching videos of this?

You can fight back without committing terrorism and war crimes against innocent people

————

How do they do that when war crimes and terrorism is being committed against their people?

Do they just send in a written request? Click their heels together three times?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They could go to the UN. Maybe get a resolution or something?

Or maybe, just maybe, they could attack compounds like they did yesterday but not attack innocent people in their homes, execute them and parade their dead bodies around whilst chanting Allahu Akbar and then spitting on the body too; like they did yesterday.

Just an idea

Maybe someone should just post some tweets of Israeli atrocities to provide some balance.

It won't be me because I'm trying to view the whole escalation from a neutral perspective.

It's impossible to condone any attack on innocent civilians but the IDF apologists on this site really need to take their blinkers off.

The actions of Hamas can only be described as an atrocity in regards to the women and elderly people that were murdered but Tivvy comparing them to ISIS is absolutely ludicrous.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Boris. They're showing us how courageous they are. Almost as if they're happy just to get one over the left. Pathetic. And don't bring up the past.

It’s seems that after the Second World War there were some very learned Jews who were against the creation of Israel and predicted the very same state of affairs we are seeing now and all along the way.

The people that live there need to find a way to co-exist in peace but I can’t see how that can be when the Palestinian people are so mis-treated.

That's in the past dammit. I often wonder how long it takes for the past to become irrelevant. I wonder if this works in courts of law.

What I’ve noticed about the Pro-Palestine mob is, they’ll do anything to avoid criticising Hamas, some will even claim this attack is justified, because of the atrocities committed by Israel in the past, and yet, they claim the bombing of Dresden was a war crime🤔
