Lads, I'm considering leaving my job and changing careers a bit. Working in an airport is exhausting and my company has been going downhill big time since Brexit too, they're more interested in lining their pockets instead of investing in its staff and stock.
They've put us on these awful work contracts since the pandemic as well. The money is decent at times, but I've given them 5 years and feel I've reached the end. I'm considering becoming a driving instructor, it's got good money going for it and I can potentially work for myself in the future and spend more time with the family. I love cars and would prefer to still work with them in that capacity.
What do you guys think? Anyone been feeling the same as me regarding a career change?

Ever thought about housing officer? Money might not be as good as you're getting now but the perks are decent, 30 days+, pension, training, progression up thenscale, most work mobile with mileage schemes and if you get a decent company the work is rewarding.
ALEXEI Navalny was poised to be freed in a prisoner swap - but Vladimir Putin blocked it at the last minute and had his arch foe killed, it was claimed today.
Former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich had been involved in the doomed deal, according to a sensational new twist outlined by senior Navalny aide Maria Pevchikh.

Hope all goes well
But I don’t think you have the patience to be a driving instructor unless you have a completely different personality on here to real life. You have to be super patient, massive props to people who can do it. I know I certainly couldn’t

How future proof is the role of a driving instructor given the advancements in self driving cars and AI?

Given the huge backlog from the pandemic I’d say is future proof for a long while yet.
I think people are having to wait 9/10 months now for a test.
With some companies you can be making £30/40 an hour too which is decent.
Is that before overheads, franchise fees etc. though?
There may be a backlog now, but as it only takes on new drivers I imagine it wills drop off rapidly at the point technology advances. No point in learning if you don't need to. Especially in London.
Not sure how long until the technology advances or if it ever will get to that point. I saw an estimate that it will be 2035 when we see driverless cars become common on the road, but I imagine one of the taxi firms will have picked them up by then. At that point, it could be cheaper to order a car to pick you up every day than to own one if you live in cities or suburbs.
No point in learning if you don't need to. Especially in London.
When did you last come to London? There’s learners everywhere

My mate qualified as an instructor and loves it.
He's very laid back and has patience which makes him good at the job.
He wished he'd left the company we worked for long before he did.
Companies will set you up with a car but do some research as costs vary.
Become an Uber driver.
No training required, lots of driving and you get to meet people.

Thanks mate, I’m thinking I should bite the bullet too. I’ve been at my company too long though that I’ve got too comfortable, and I get worried if I leave I might regret it. Especially with having a family and mortgage. But I’m honestly tired of where I am.

You obviously didn't read my post. This is about if it is cheaper to use driverless cars in a city where the technology could be optimised. It will be a massive step change and make learning to drive a redundant process.
Go ahead and ignore it though. It will be more difficult to do a career change in 10 years when you're older though if you become outdated.
